Reese Witherspoon Talks New Legally Blonde Prequel Series

If you have ever wondered what Elle Woods’ life was like in high school before she became a Harvard Law School graduate, then the odds are certainly in your favor for a prequel series of the legendary “Legally Blonde” film will soon make its way to our screens.

On Tuesday, May 14, Prime Video announced that there will be a prequel series of “Legally Blonde” titled “Elle” which will focus on the titular character Elle Woods’ high school days.

The announcement also came with the news that Reese Witherspoon who played the role of Elle will executive produce the series with her Hello Sunshine media company on Amazon alongside Laura Kittrell, known for her works in Insecure, Black Monday, and High School.

Witherspoon confirmed the news in a statement to “The Hollywood Reporter” when she called the prequel a dream come true for her. She said, “I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series! Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do.

What could be better than that? I’m extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine — along with our amazing writer Laura Kittrell — for making this dream of mine come true. Legally Blonde is back!”

Legally Blonde — Everything To Know About The Upcoming Prequel

The 2001 Romantic-Comedy film “Legally Blonde” was the story of Elle Woods, a young girl who had a perfect life and who she thought was a perfect boyfriend until he left for Harvard to study Law.

Not knowing what to do with her life, she scurried to Harvard to study the same Law with the intention of winning her boyfriend back only to eventually pick interest in the course and also have a self-discovery of who she really is. Elle’s story showed a great deal of women empowerment and helped curb the infamous “dumb blonde” stereotype.

While nothing has been revealed about the plotline of the prequel “Elle,” the official logline read, “Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.” The synopsis alone has given room for so many expectations, for example, the famous bend and snap move that Elle learned from her mother when she was in junior high.

Also, information about the cast is yet to be known but we do wish to see Witherspoon’s look-alike daughter Ava Elizabeth Phillipe step into the pink shoes of Elle and blow our minds just like her mother did twenty-four years ago. As for the release date, it’s also unknown but Witherspoon shared on her Instagram that the series would air next year 2025.
