Exclusive Look at Neighbours Star Felix Mallard’s First Taste of Hollywood

Ben Kirk only left our screens a couple of months ago, relocating his life to Oakey where his late father grew up. But in reality, actor Felix Mallard moved to LA early this year and has already landed his first major role on CBS comedy series ‘Happy Together’.

Felix will star as Cooper, one of the three main characters on the show. Written by Austen Earl (9JKL) and Tim McAuliffe (The Last Man on Earth), the comedy follows the lives of Peter (Damon Wayans Jr) and Claire (Amber Stevens West), who are becoming increasingly bored of their mundane, suburban existence.

Whereas they are attempting to relive their youth, popstar Cooper is drawn to their normal suburban lives and moves in with them. Felix’s character is described as a sweet, charming and positive young man who sees the good in everyone – much like his role on Neighbours!

Happy Together is based on the life of megastar Harry Styles, who is listed as an executive producer of the show alongside Ben Winston, who is also producing ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’. Soon after Styles shot to fame on The X Factor UK, he moved in with Winston and his wife as an escape from the limelight – see the parallel?

When asked if Felix had spoken to Harry Styles, he revealed, “I got to chat with him when were first deciding to do the show and he’s really excited,” said Mallard, 20. “He’s really keen. He knows that it’s a story based on his life, and he gets to produce a TV show which is fantastic for his career. So I think he really, really does care.”

His co-star Amber Stevens West went on to explain Harry’s input to the show: “This is his story, and even though we’re not telling it exactly as it happened, people are going to ask questions — like, ‘Did this really happen to you? So he’s going to care about the stories that we’re telling. I think he’s going to have a pretty strong presence as a producer.”

Fans of Neighbours will know that Felix has a passion for music, shown many times through his character of Ben. So of course, working with Harry Styles must mean some kind of music collaboration – right?! To this, Felix responded, “I’ve been playing music for so long — guitar, bass, drums, piano. I played in a band in high school and we still jam every now and then,” he said. “I wrote some stuff with some friends back home and we’re looking to release that. It’s so much fun. It’s such a huge part of my life and I feel very fortunate that I get to do it with this show. Hopefully, I get to jam with Harry! That’d be insane.”

Happy Together will air on CBS in the Fall, in the 8:30/7:30c time slot!
