Neighbours Spoilers: Elly Conway Accused of Catfishing Jane Harris

When Jane Harris (Annie Jones) returned to Erinsborough earlier this month, her friends were left confused as to why she was in town without notice. It was soon revealed she had come to meet her online lover, Richard, for the first time. However, Richard never turned up, and after revealing that she sent him a huge sum of money, Jane’s friends realised that she’d been scammed.

Jane has suspected a few people so far, including an ex-colleague and an Erinsborough High student, Richie Amblin. (Lachlan Millar) When Jane puts the clues together and realises that she is wrong about Richie, she decides that she must not make any more accusations unless she is certain about who was catfishing her. That is, until Elly Conway (Jodi Anasta) comes along…

When she sees Elly Conway carrying shopping bags from a very pricey baby store, Jane’s mind goes into overdrive. She wonders where Elly got the money from to afford such expensive items, especially when she doesn’t have a job. On top of that, she realises that only just a few days ago Elly had been very rude to her. Jane soon comes up with the theory that Elly still hates her because she fired her from Erinsborough High, leading her to get revenge online.

As the week goes on, Jane becomes increasingly embarrassed as more and more people find out about her falling victim to an online scam. Old friend Paul Robinson decides to step in and help, asking his private investigator to get to the bottom of things. To do so, the investigator needs all correspondence that Jane and Richard had, but she refuses to do so, filled with shame.
