As Bridgerton fans continue to mourn the unexpected exit of Regé-Jean Page or to give him his proper “Bridgerton” name and title, Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings, from the series, another major news drop for fans of the period drama.
Bridgerton’s Latest Surprise Twist
The Shonda Rimes-produced regency drama, which quickly became popular after reportedly making its way into millions of homes around the world, is adding a new cast to its upcoming season 2.
The beloved series also reached number one in 76 countries on Netflix, quickly snatching a go-ahead order for season 2. According to the series creator Van Dunsen, the series has also been renewed for seasons 3 and 4. The show is based on the popular series by Julia Quinn and is set in the competitive world of London’s Regency era.
A press release for the series recently announced that CW’s Charmed, Rupert Evans, will be joining the series as none other but the late Edmund Bridgerton, the patriarch of the Bridgerton family and father-of-eight. As fans of the book and the series know, Edmund Bridgerton is dead on both sides, though the series leaves room for some questions like, if Edmund Bridgerton is dead, how did he die?
It’s not yet clear whether the show’s writers want to twist our minds so hard by bringing Edmund Bridgerton back, or if they’ll simply make us see and learn more about him by using the power of flashbacks. I’ll have to say that whatever scenario they use will depend on how awesome they want to be.

Edmund Bridgerton’s Death
While it is believed in the show that Edmund Bridgerton is dead by its characters, and its fans as well (though I’m not so sure now) — with his son Anthony Bridgerton constantly trying to live up to his beloved father’s expectations — the question of what killed him was, however, not addressed.
In the book, we learned that Edmund Bridgerton died after suffering an allergic reaction to a bee sting.
Though the bee theory has not been addressed by the show, bees have played a surprisingly huge part in the movie: by landing on the front door of the Bridgerton home in the series beginning and appearing in key scenes. It even makes one wonder if we’ll soon be getting more than an 1813 London drama.
