Has Netflix Canceled Its Reality Show ‘Bling Empire’?

Netflix’s popular reality show Bling Empire aired on January 2021 for the first time on the streamer, and now it has been unexpectedly canceled. The show, given its unique genre, was a hit among fans and lasted three seasons before being canceled.

Bling Empire showcased the lives of materialistic, wealthy Southeast and East Asian Americans who are socialites living in LA. This was the first of its kind show where all the main cast members were of East and Southeast Asian descent.

Given its popularity among fans, the show also inspired a spinoff titled Bling Empire: New York that aired on January 2023. So, why has Netflix canceled Bling Empire now? Keep reading to find out the details!

Both Bling Empire And Its Spinoff Series Have Been Canceled By Netflix.

While Seasons 1 and 2 were eight episodes each, Season 3 had a total of 10 episodes. However, there won’t be a fourth season for the show, and the same has happened with Bling Empire: New York, which won’t be renewed for Season 2.

While some fans weren’t happy with the cancelation, others felt it was a long time coming. Fans claimed that the reality show had started focusing more on drama and farce as opposed to showcasing the real events and actual lives of the cast.

Moreover, they felt that the New York spinoff was decked with drama and had no storyline whatsoever. Fans even deemed the show boring after the first season.

The series featured Kane Lim (Real Estate Developer), Gabriel Chiu (Plastic Surgeon), Kevin Taejin Kreider (model), Christine Chiu (Philanthropist), Anna Shay (Socialite), Andrew Gray (Actor), Kim Lee (DJ), Guy Tang (Singer/hairdresser), Jaime Xie (Influencer), and Dorothy Wang (Billionaire).

Lately, the streamer has been canceling a lot of popular shows in an attempt to cut the budget or focus on other content variants. The latest on its list of cancelations apart from Bling Empire was Freeridge which made fans very upset.

Freeridge was a spinoff of Netflix’s successful show On My Block that aired on the streamer on February 2023. Barely two months after it aired, the streamer decided not to renew the show for a second season. This was followed by a fourth and final season of On My Block that wrapped up in 2023.
