Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was personally picked by Donald Trump, but it seems the former National Guard major forgot how important security is. Recent news alleges that he shared detailed information about forthcoming strikes in Yemen  via a private Signal group chat.

A Security Breach Happened Twice

New York Times reported this weekend, that sources in the know claimed that the chat in March this year, “included the flight schedules for the F/A-18 Hornets targeting the Houthis in Yemen.” Some of the participants allegedly included “his wife, brother and personal lawyer,” according to four different people.

To make matters worse, Hegseth allegedly used his private phone to access the chat group, and not his government-issued one. The outlet argued that Jennifer, his wife, had no need to be in the know about military deployments. Previously, she worked for Fox News.

Calls For Firing

Plus, while his brother and lawyer do work in the Pentagon, why would they need to know the Yemen strike details? It’s not the first such breach according to the outlet. Donald Trump face calls to get rid of the senior administration official who seems to have erred and could have placed the lives of Americans at risk.

Many people responded in the comments when ABC shared the news on YouTube. Naturally, there is a lot of concern. Additionally, a  lot of people talked about why on earth Pete Hegseth’s wife is so involved when she doesn’t work for the government. More folks think that Trump made a mistake by picking him for the position in the first place.

Reactions In The Discussion

One unhappy viewer commented, in the discussion, “Why is he bringing his wife to some of his briefing[s]. That’s something else that should be brought up.”

More people picked up on that, here is another example of that: “What’s with the wife? She has no clearance. They all need to go.”

Meanwhile, dripping with sarcasm, someone else wrote, “Nothing like having an online family get together and sharing your war plans.”

Even before his appointment as the U.S. Secretary of Defense, there were concerns that Donald Trump’s pick didn’t have enough qualifications or experience for the job. So, someone added, “That’s so weird, it’s almost as if he’s completely unqualified for the job.”

Real Concerns

Often, on social media, those who don’t support Trump will troll because they can. However, it seems that this breach, which follows another one involving the unintentional inclusion of the editor of The Atlantic, has raised the antennas of worried citizens.

“Why and how is this man the Secretary of Defense in the first place? I thought we were hiring people based on merit? This man was a major in the army reserve (national guard) and wasn’t even a full time soldier. How does a person who was never a full time soldier at the very least become the Secretary of Defense?” a bewildered commenter asked.
