Josh Duggar was on trial in late 2021 for alleged CSAM offenses when a friend of the 19 Kids and Counting family, Bobye Holt, gave testimony regarding the molestation of teenager Josh on members of his female siblings.
Now, he filed a motion that specifically mentions her in his new bid for freedom.
How Did Bobye Participate In The Trial?
Josh Duggar was not charged with molestation, and it seemed unusual for the testimony to be heard during his trial for downloading and possessing graphic videos of children.
Instead, he had apologized and was sent to a camp for boys, earning Jim Bob Duggar and his mom, Michelle, a lot of criticism among TLC fans.

Bobye Holt claimed that she spoke with Josh at the time. He’d been dating her daughter, and allegedly, they were considered a match as Jim Holt, Bobye’s husband, was considered to be a respected member of the church the Duggars attended.
During the court case, Bobye claimed that Josh openly admitted to wrongdoing. But now that he has filed a motion to have his case reopened, Josh questioned her testimony.
According to The Sun US, he wants her evidence tossed because her motivation, according to him, was retaliation for not marrying “her daughter.”
Going It Alone
In early June, Josh Duggar requested help from legal professionals to appeal his case. He’d failed with his previous attempts, and he’d run out of funds to keep on fighting for freedom.

In a letter to Judge Timothy L. Brooks, he said that he’s learned some life lessons in Seagoville prison and wanted to try for another appeal. But his request was turned down.
Now that he’s going for a new retrial or overturning of his conviction, the disgraced reality TV star claimed that Bobye Holt demonstrated anti-Duggar sentiments.
Additionally, he believes that she profited off her story when she appeared in Amazon’s Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets.
A Twist In The Story
In other words, he feels that she was an unreliable witness, which directly led to his 12-year prison sentence.
There is a twist to the story that wasn’t mentioned by the outlet, but perhaps it will assist the 19 Kids and Counting alum in his effort to get out of prison.
In 2023, Bobye and her husband Jim were accused of physical and emotional abuse of their minor children. The court believed the story and ordered older siblings, Spencer and Kristian, to take over custody.
Desperate To Get Free
From the beginning of his trial, the former TV star claimed that someone else had downloaded the pornography.
To this day, he believes that witnesses were deliberately kept from testifying. Plus, he suggested that his arrest was a political machination. For years, he had hopes of following a career in politics.
Whether his new motion to get free helps him or not remains to be seen. So far, every effort to get a retrial has failed.
