Katie Thurston Cancer Update – May Have Metastases

Katie Thurston, formerly on The Bachelor with Matt James and later on Paradise and Bachelorette, gave an update on her breast cancer recently. Unfortunately, it’s not sounding very good for the 34-year-old. She started treatment, but the cancer might have become metastases, like Teddi Mellencamp’s did. 

Stage Four Cancer Diagnosis?

The former ABC star only recently got engaged to Jeff Arcuri, but now she might have stage four cancer. E! News reported on March 25 that Katie shared some bad news via social media. On her Boobie Broadcast Channel, she explained that doctors discovered some “spots” on her “liver.”

At the moment, it hasn’t been confirmed, but treatment was put on hold, and on Friday, she will have another “biopsy.” The scary part is that her medical professionals lean towards it being cancer, which would take her to “stage four.” Metastatic disease is no joke and takes more treatment. 

The Origial Diagnosis 

In February, when Katie Thurtson first spoke about her cancer, she was pleased that Jeff was there to support her. At the time, she had been diagnosed with stage 3. She told her followers that she had to work around moving and insurance coverage. However, her next update didn’t seem too bad. 

With the exposure of her breast cancer, Katie Thurston seemed happy that being unwell could help her bring more awareness about it. In fact, she took inspiration from hearing other people who shared their stories.

Fans React To The News

When E! News shared the scary new findings on Instagram, plenty of Bachelor Nation fans reached out in the discussion area. One of them wrote, “Sending her so much love no one deserves this.” and another one lamented, “So sad to hear this. I have been following her since her Bach days. Terribly tragic.”

Here are a few other comments:

Notably, other people reminded followers that stage 4 cancer isn’t necessarily the death sentence that it was 20 years ago. One of them noted, “Fortunately, a stage 4 diagnosis is not the same now as it was 20 years ago. Medicine has advanced and treatments are [wider] for stage 4 cancers.”

According to Medical News Today, “Stage 4 is the most severe cancer stage, and it carries the highest risk of mortality. However, stage 4 cancer is not always terminal.”
