Keith Urban Announces Return To American Idol

Who has missed seeing Keith Urban on American Idol? If you’ve missed his accent, his jokes, his singing, and all, then you would be most glad to hear that he is returning, albeit temporarily.

Keith Urban – To Return To American Idol As A Guest Performer

Urban was a judge on the singing competition from season 12 but left the show by the time season 16 rolled in. He has seen it fit to return to the competition show as a guest performer and mentor!

The star took to Instagram to share that he’s returning to perform on the finale episode of season 21. “Headed back to American Idol next week,” Urban, 55, shared on Friday, May 12.

He performed his hit song “Wild Hearts” for the finale, which aired at 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT on ABC Sunday, as well as offered advice to the season’s top three contestants.

The grand three-hour event saw three vocalists narrowed down from the last five contestants of American Idol season 21. The names in the final five were Iam Tongi, Megan Danielle, Colin Stough, Wé Ani and Zachariah Smith.

Urban was a judge on the show for four seasons, but revealed in 2018 that he would not be returning due to the reboot, which required that other artists be brought in as judges. Ryan Seacrest was kept on as host.The current judge roster includes Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

American Idol – Contestants To Perform Two Disney Songs During Season Finale

During Sunday’s episode of American Idol, the contestants wowed the audience with beautiful renditions of classic Disney songs.

Smith performed “Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from The Lion King, Stough performed “Real Gone” from Cars and Ani sang “The Climb” from Hannah Montana: The Movie. Sara Bareilles opened the show with a special rendition of “When You Wish Upon a Star.”

To make it even more surreal, Halle Bailey, who plays Ariel in the live-action version of “Little Mermaid,” performed “Part of Your World.”
