What The Duggar Kids Said About Their Estrangement From Parents Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar

The Duggar family which consists of parents Jim Bob Duggar (dad), Michelle Duggar (mom), and a total of 19 kids (some are married with their own children), are known for their strict “Christian” lifestyles.

Growing up, Jim Bob introduced some strict and conservative rules in the family to help keep his children from the world.

The rules are mostly for the females. They are forbidden to put on pants or clothes that would bare their arms and legs. The females must in all their lives always put on feminine regalia such as gowns and skirts.

Where the gowns and skirts are not long enough, I.e. a little above the knee, they must put on pant hosts to cover the part of their legs that show. On no account should they be seen putting on short clothes, in fact, it’s a taboo. Nose piercings and tattoos are also prohibited from the family. They are also discouraged from using any form of birth control. For the single kids, they must have parental chaperones while they go on dates.

The Duggars — Jill Duggar’s Reason For Avoiding Her Family

Despite all the strict rules dished out to his daughters, including having them homeschooled just to make sure they don’t get mixed up with the people of the “world,” some of Jim Bob’s kids got married, realized that they were actually in bondage, and separated from their family.

Jill Duggar was the first to break free from the shackles of her parents’ strict rules after her husband Derrick Dillard was fired from the family’s “Counting On” reality tv show.

In the couple’s YouTube video posted two years ago, 2021, Jill said that it’s been “a couple of years” since she last visited her family.

Speaking of why she has refrained from visiting her father, Jill said, “We just feel in this season of life we have to prioritize our mental and emotional health and all of that. Our threshold — we like to call it — is a little bit lower in this season of life for us with a lot going on in our own lives.”

The Duggars — Jessa, And Jinger Duggar’s Stance

Jessa Duggar got married to her husband Ben Seewald and together they share four adorable kids. After Jessa’s marriage to Ben, they too moved out.

At first, Jessa maintained some of the rules made by her dad, in her marriage but recently, Jessa seems to have broken almost all the rules. She has begun wearing pants. Not just plain pants, she sports ripped jeans too.

Jinger Duggar was the next vocal one to speak against her dad. Her eyes seemed to have opened after she visited her brother-in-law Ben’s Church. With the help of Ben, she saw Christianity in a different light.

According to Jinger, “I realized that some of what I had been taught was hurtful and untrue, I knew I needed to speak publicly about this because I promoted teachings that I now believe are damaging. I noticed his church read the Bible in its entirety and preached scripture that way. I feel like now I’m in a much better place. I see God as amazing.”

After Jinger, Jill, Jessa, and Joy-Anna Duggar sued the City of Springdale, Arizona, police department for publicizing Josh’s 2006 molestation case, Jinger’s husband Jeremy Vuolo said his family cut ties with his inlaws because they didn’t share the same views in the case as Jim Bob.

When Jeremy was questioned about his relationship with Jim Bob and Michelle he said they had become more distant. “I think as you grow and have your own family, kids, and life — you know, you go from, like, seeing everyone every day to talking to everyone every day.”
