It’s all over the Internet and Royal Family updates. A new book is coming out in August 2020, and “gasp,” “gasp,” it claims Prince Harry and Meghan Markle knew before they were even married that they wanted to ditch the royal life. While no one is totally certain what the 320-page book asserts in full concerning the details of how Prince Harry and Meghan came to the decision to quit The Firm, some intel has been leaked.
One of the most profound claims made by authors, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand is that Prince Harry and Meghan discussed “going in a different direction” long before they got married on May 19, 2018. If that’s true, then some fans of the British Royal family believe this private conspiracy was a bit of bad faith on the part of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Royal Family News: More Megxit Drama
Although Prince Harry is said to have been “deeply unhappy” in his role for some time, according to the authors of this new book, surely he could have brought his concerns to the Crown. Surely Prince Harry could have gone to anyone of his close family members such as his own brother, Prince William, his father, Prince Charles, Kate Middleton … someone. Instead, Harry chose to keep his feelings close to the vest. Thus, Prince Harry and Meghan’s choice to step back from their royal duties came as a complete (and perhaps unnecessary) shock to Buckingham Palace.
While uncomfortable with the British royal family, many felt it Harry and Meghan insulted Harry’s heritage and the people of Great Britain outright. While making the choice to leave the Firm behind doesn’t really constitute treason, it is definitely was seen by some as an “Et Tu, Brute?” moment for Queen Elizabeth especially. No one would have expected that such an attack on the image of the British royal family, such a knife in the dark, would come from the Queen’s own grandson.
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s True Intentions Revealed?
Now, to Americans, such sentiments concerning Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might sound outlandish. After all, this is really just a grandson who wants a different path in life, and surely, Queen Elizabeth understands that. Most grandmothers would. It’s not as if Harry plotted the murder of the sovereign, or slept with his father’s wife (or consort), or with his sister-in-law, and it’s not as if Harry went off and conducted war against Great Britain as the head of an enemy’s armies.
All of those things would be actual high treason, things Harry is certainly not guilty of committing. The truth is, the story of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle isn’t one of intentional misconduct, intentional insults toward the Crown, or intentional offenses directed at the citizenry of the U.K.
In stark contrast, this is the story of a man who would likely never ascend the throne, who wants to be his own person, and who wants a legacy that he makes … not one that is handed to him by tradition. All in all, from an American point of view at least, that’s quite admirable.

Whether the new book paints Harry and Meghan as sinners, saints, or somewhere in between, it’s a good bet that there will be royal fans who will find themselves both for and against it. In other words, although it’s certainly going to be a best-seller, when it comes to Harry and Meghan, it won’t settle anything.
