How Long Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Last In Canada?

British Royal News suggests that while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might both be settling into their new life in Vancouver quite well right now, a lot of people can’t help but wonder how long the couple will last in Canada. That’s because there are several new reports that suggest Canada is looking to cut off the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from their free security. Here’s what you need to know.

According to the BBC, the Canadian government announced this week that they will no longer be providing free security for Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their son Archie Harrison. The couple have been living in a multi-million dollar mansion in Vancouver while transitioning in to their new lives post-Megxit. However, a lot of Canadians are none too pleased that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have decided to become their neighbors and what’s more, they also have to pay for their security. The royal Canadian Mounted Police have been providing security for the family the moment they stepped foot in Canada last month.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex choosing to relocate to Canada on a part-time basis presented our government with a unique and unprecedented set of circumstances,” stated Canada’s Public Safety Minister Bill Blair on Thursday. “As the duke and duchess are currently recognized as Internationally Protected Persons, Canada has an obligation to provide security assistance on an as-needed basis.”

In addition, a whopping 72 percent of Canadians said that they don’t think they should be paying for Harry and Meghan’s security. While Prince Harry will always be a member of the British royal family (even though he’s not a working one anymore), Meghan herself is not Canadian. She was born and raised in Los Angeles and only spent time in Toronto while she was filming her hit television show Suits for seven seasons.

What’s more, Canadians do not know how long Harry and Meghan will continue to make their home base in Vancouver or how long they will even last in the country for that matter. So far the Sussexes themselves have not made any comments about their future plans.
