Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle welcomed their second child and first daughter, Lilibet “Lily” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on June 4th. With the birth of his newborn daughter and his revelations that his last visit back home for his grandfather’s funeral made him anxious, speculations have broken out whether Prince Harry will be attending the unveiling of his late mother’s statue on July 1st.
If Harry is unable to attend, a royal expert has reported that Kate may step in his place to support her husband Prince William during the unveiling ceremony.
What Will Affect Harry’s Plans To Attend The Unveiling Of His Late Mother’s Kensington Palace Statue?
While Prince William and Prince Harry commissioned the Princess Diana statue to honor their mother in the year she would have turned 60 was she still living, the chances of Harry leaving behind his infant daughter in the States to attend the event are small.
Even without the birth of his daughter, which is a massive deal and I congratulate the Sussexes for that, the big elephant in the room is that Prince Harry and his brother, and probably most members of the royal family, are possibly not on their friendliest terms right now.
Prince Harry recently admitted that his visit to the U.K. for his grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral required therapy in order for him to brave up to go back to England.
This also happened a few months after his and his wife’s explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey made a number of disturbing claims directed at the royal family. While the world expected the brothers to be tense toward one another, they surprised everyone by chatting amicably like the “good old days”. So maybe it’s water under the bridge. But the sad part is that Harry didn’t actually stop making headlines off of the backs of the royal family when he returned to the U.S.
Russel Myers, Daily Mirror royal editor, revealed on the Pod Save the Queen podcast that William and Harry’s reunion will be “uncomfortable”.
“Will there be an appetite for him to keep on criticizing his family in that way? He’s potentially going to be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with his brother when they unveil the Princess Diana statue,” he said. “Maybe Kate will step in to not have William do it on his own.”
There are actually more than one reasons for Harry to stick to his Montecito, California mansion and not attend the event in person, and royal experts are saying that Kate is ready to step in if Harry can’t make it.

Kate Middleton & Princess Diana’s Kensington Statue Unveiling
One of Britain’s most popular princesses, Diana, tragically died in 1997 at the age of 36 due to a car accident. In recent times, the late princess’s name has famously resurfaced due to a movie about her life being made, a controversy surrounding a BBC interview she was involved in, recent books based on her life, and of course, her 36-year-old son Prince Harry revealing that her untimely death took a toll on his mental health. With the interest that the late princess is garnering, it proves that she hasn’t lost the vulnerable and bold charm that the people loved and continue to love about her.
In celebration of what would have been her 60th birthday, she is getting a statue at Kensington Palace and it will be unveiled on July 1. In addition to the statue, she now has a granddaughter named after her.
