Meghan Markle, also known as Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is the American wife of Britain’s Prince Harry. Before marriage, she was a philanthropist and humanitarian and had landed a starring role in the legal drama “Suits”. She appeared in the movie as Rachel Zane for seven seasons.

In 2014, she opened The Tig, a blog where she wrote and discussed lifestyle and fashion. She had turned it into a reasonably successful brand before leaving it defunct in 2017 to marry Prince Harry. Upon marriage to Harry, she also quitted “Suits” and retired as an actress to become a working royal.

Since leaving royal life behind, the pair have been busy making million dollar moves and snatching up lucrative deals. Their exit from the royal family afforded them financial independence and allowed them to pursue their works in the commercial and media field without the restrictions they would otherwise have had were they still working royals. So the couple’s relocation from Britain to America, termed Megxit by the media, definitely has its perks.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the couple’s combined earnings as of March 2021 was $60 million.

After permanently resigning their roles as working royals, the pair signed a $100 million deal to produce different projects, including documentaries, a children’s project and feature films, for Netflix. Around the same time, they received $18 million to make content for Spotify through their Archewell Productions.

This enabled them to buy a $14.2 million property in Montecito, California, where they now live with their two young children. Public records show that they financed the purchase with a $9.5 million mortgage loan.

The couple were initially set up on a date by a mutual friend in 2016. The date apparently went well as they announced their engagement on November 27, 2017. Markle, who had been married to American film producer Trevor Engelson, became a British citizen when she wed Harry at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018.

A week before the arrival of her daughter Lilibet, Meghan Markle released her first children’s book, “The Bench”, in June. It was mildly successful and topped the New York Times best-sellers list in the children’s picture books category. Before the arrival of the Duchess’s children’s book, Prince Harry had worked with Oprah Winfrey on his successful mental health series “The Me You Can’t See”. The docuseries highlighted the challenges and stigma that still surrounds mental health, while shedding a light on the need for someone struggling mentally to open up. Following its May 21 debut, it became the most-watched show on AppleTV+.

Recently, Meghan announced that she is starting work on an animated series for Netflix as part of the couple’s deal with the streaming platform. “Pearl” will follow the adventures of a little girl who draws inspiration from strong and influential women in history. While it is geared towards children, it is hoped that adults can find it inspirational as well.

Along with penning a memoir due 2022, Prince Harry will be producing as well as starring in his upcoming “Invictus Games” series. The documentary will focus on the people – soldiers who suffered injuries whilst serving their countries – participating in the event.
