Meghan Markle Won’t Open Presents On Christmas Day For This Reason

It looks like Meghan Markle’s first Christmas as an official member of the royal family is going to look quite different this year. As a matter of fact, there’s a new report that says the Duchess of Sussex won’t be able to open any of her presents on Christmas morning, even though it’s a tradition that she’s done with her own family for many years. Instead, things will be quite different from the Royals.
Meghan, who is expecting her first child with Prince Harry, will be celebrating the holiday with Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royals at Sandringham Estate. But instead of opening her presents on Christmas morning, she will open them with her new family on Christmas Eve.
According to reports, the royals love to give each other “gag” gifts while finishing the final touches on their tree on Christmas Eve. Apparently, Meghan was a huge hit with the family last year when she gave Queen Elizabeth a singing toy hamster in 2017. She also gave Prince William a ‘Tam O’Shanter’ hat with fake hair attached. Who knows what kind of gag gifts the Royals will end up exchanging this year, but it’s without a doubt that it will make for one fun and exciting Christmas Eve!

Now, as far as why the Royals do this on Christmas Eve and not Christmas Day, there’s a good reason for it. “In a tradition called Heiligabend Berscherung, they will open their presents. The gifts, jokey and inexpensive rather than lavish, are piled on trestle tables alongside name tags,” former royal chef Darren McGrady revealed, according to the Daily Mail.
