Prince Albert of Monaco has announced that he, too, has tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus. Authorities in Monaco have stated that the 62-year-old ruler had been tested for the pathogen earlier this week and is now being monitored by his personal doctor and specialists at a hospital in the tiny European state.

According to reports, representatives for Prince Albert say that his health “does not inspire any concern” and that he will continue to work in one of his private apartments while in isolation. However, he will continue to be monitored by his personal doctor and specialists at the Princess Grace Hospital Centre. Prince Albert’s wife, Princess Charlene of Monaco, has also been tested for the virus. The couple married back in 2011.
With that said, Prince Albert has urged the 39,000 inhabitants of Monaco to stay indoors and to practice as much social distancing as possible. As of press time, there have been 236,729 reported cases of the novel coronavirus in more than 150 countries from around the world. The death toll is now at 9,828, with many of them being registered in both Italy and China. Right now the most severe cases of Covid-19, and the highest rates of death, are among the elderly.
Reports also indicate that there is some concern over at Buckingham Palace, as Prince Charles did attend at WaterAid event in London on March 10th. While it doesn’t appear as though the two royals shook hands, there’s a possibility that Prince Albert might have gotten infected by someone either before, during or after the event.

So far Prince Charles himself has not made any comments about the coronavirus. However, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and now Queen Elizabeth have all urged calm, along with maintaining a sense of compassion and community during these uncertain times.
