The answer is yes according to royal author Nigel Cawthorne who has made the startling claim that Charles was planning on upping the pair’s visibility and voice in the Royal Family once he became king. Before that could happen, Harry and Meghan ran off to Hollywood like a pair of rebellious teenagers, eager to get away from the house rules. If they had the patience and insight to wait a bit, might they have gained everything they ever wanted and more, with a lot less hassle, criticism, and loss?

Meghan May Have Had It All Had They Not Decided To Step Down?

According to Cawthorne, Prince Charles planned to sit Harry and Meghan in the middle of his inner-circle once he had the throne.

Cawthorne has written Prince Andrew, Epstein, and the Palace, and he told Express.co.uk, “Charles wouldn’t consider his own son minor royalty.”

“He saw that the marriage of the Sussexes brought Harry great happiness and that it created at the same time a new story for the monarchy that resonated deeply both in Britain but also in the Commonwealth and other English-speaking countries if not the world. Only good things could come of that.”

It sounds like Charles was well aware that Harry and Meghan resonate on some level with some people and thought about giving them the platform to make all of the lofty cultural and societal changes that they preach about. The world will never know, however, and neither will tempestuous Harry and Meghan.

Right now they are going it alone and it is slow going. They are still sitting in a borrowed house, unemployed and without the huge platform, they planned to use to improve the world—Archewell. Cawthorne notes that Charles liked Meghan and would have made room for her in the monarchy. “Of course, when they decided to emigrate all that had to come to an end as there is no such thing as an absentee HRH.”
