TLC ’90 Day Fiancé’ Spoilers: Elizabeth Says Andrei Is A Male Chauvinist While She Is The Breadwinner

TLC’s “90 Day Fiancé-Happily Ever After?” spoilers and updates reveal Elizabeth Potthast Castravet was not happy at all with her husband Andrei in a sneak peek of the latest episode, “Drive Me Crazy Like A Roulette Wheel!”

TLC 90 Day Fiance’ Updates – Elizabeth, Andrei, & Baby Eleanor Traveled To Chisinau, Moldova

Elizabeth, Andrei, and baby Eleanor traveled to Chisinau, Moldova for their Moldovan wedding, and they had a meal with Andrei’s parents, Vasilisa and Stefan, his brother Radu, and his wife and their child, who Elizabeth said strongly resembles cousin Eleanor.

Many things were discussed at the table, including the need for Elizabeth to be baptized in their orthodox faith (this is typical in Christianity, even in the United States since methods and modes of baptism are different from denomination to denomination) but Elizabeth was not wild about the idea. Radu also talked about the custom of a godfather being at the wedding according to Moldovan custom, and his being the godfather – assuming his wife would be the godmother – but he would not be a godfather as is present in the baptism of a baby.

The godparents help pay for the ceremony (which is strange, considering Andrei had Elizabeth ask her father to pay for it!) but what Elizabeth really took exception to was his insistence that he is the head of the household, not her, even though she is the breadwinner and Andrei does not have a steady job and does not appear to be trying very hard to get one either!

TLC 90 Day Fiance’ Spoilers – Elizabeth & Andrei Argued In Front Of Andrei’s Family

Elizabeth and Andrei actually argued in front of his family at the breakfast table, and Andrei made it perfectly clear that in Moldova, customs and acceptable behavior are much different than they are in the United States! Elizabeth could not communicate as well as she would have liked, with her not being fluent in their language and they not speaking English whatsoever.

Radu speaks a little English, so of course, Andrei had to interpret back and forth but does not always do so to Elizabeth’s satisfaction. She was very impressed by the large breakfast, which in American customs would have been more of a brunch, and asked Andrei if his mother makes a big production of breakfast, and other meals, daily, or if this was just because they were guests. Vasilisa, with Andrei interpreting, said every day but she does make it nicer when guests are with them.

Elizabeth wanted to know if it was tiring for her, and Andrei appeared to be insulting Americans when he said his mother said that there was no room for “tired!” Then he said that is how it is in Moldova – you work all the time and just keep moving! Elizabeth felt insulted at that remark, and definitely defensive, as she asked him if he thought she didn’t do exactly that! Andrei said they do their work with more energy…Elizabeth clearly thinking that Andrei didn’t put much energy into finding gainful employment!

She reminded him of the fact that he wasn’t working and that she was the breadwinner, and took a jab at him as she sarcastically more or less implied that he wasn’t much of a head of household, and then Andrei felt insulted. Meanwhile, his parents just watched their ever-increasing anger at one another through their body language, even though they didn’t understand their words…some things don’t need translation!

Andrei said indeed he is the head of the household, and he became very upset that she was insulting him in front of his parents and was glad they didn’t understand English! He explained to producers that he was pointing out cultural differences between women of Moldova and American women, and said Moldovan women do everything –cleaning, cooking, and child care and some work outside the home besides-much like single mothers must do even though there is a man in the house.

He reminded Elizabeth that they were not in America and told her “over there you listen-but over here, you listen double!” Elizabeth then spoke on camera and said Andrei’s behavior had been incomprehensible, and that his opinions of gender roles didn’t even match with his own life!

He is a stay at home father and she has a full-time job! She continued to talk on camera to the producers, saying she wasn’t sure why Andrei was acting like a chauvinistic alpha male and worried it may be a bad sign for the rest of their trip!
