Prince Harry Heads To U.K.

The Duke of Sussex, 38, has scheduled a trip to the U.K. for early September. And Prince Harry looks forward to participating there in the annual awards event for WellChild.

A charity for seriously ill children, the organization has become known in part thanks to Harry, who has served as patron for 15 years.

And WellChild represents one of the last organizations to which Harry clung after leaving his working royal role in 2020, according to People.

After participating in the WellChild event in England, Harry will travel to Germany for his Invictus Games competition.

However, it remains unknown as to whether the Duke of Sussex will spend time with his family in the UK. And in an official statement, Prince Harry focused on what WellChild means to him.

“For nearly 20 years, WellChild has been transforming the lives of children and young people across the U.K.,” shared the Duke of Sussex.

And he expressed appreciation to those who offer “critical care that prioritizes the physical, mental and emotional well-being of these individuals and their families.

The courage and strength embodied by these young people — and the tireless devotion of those who support them — never cease to inspire me,” he added.

Prince Harry Celebrates WellChild

And the Duke of Sussex shared, “I’m honored to attend this year’s awards ceremony and celebrate their incredible work.”

Harry’s remarks come after attending 11 of the awards ceremonies. And Meghan Markle also attended in both 2018 and 2019.

However, the couple’s plans last year to attend the WellChild Awards ceremony ended in tragedy. Prince Harry and Meghan, 41, learned that Queen Elizabeth had become critically ill. And she died later that same day.

However, the Duke of Sussex hopes to focus on the positive this year with his return to the WellChild Awards ceremony.

And the awards recognize the fact that more than 100,000 children and young people live in the U.K. with serious health needs. The ceremony turns the spotlight on the inspiring qualities of the young people with these challenges.

Prince Harry Will Give Speech

And WellChild also honors the dedicated nurses, parents and siblings who help to provide the kids with healthy and happy lives.

As he has done in the past, Harry plans to devote his time to visiting with all the winners and their families at a ceremony reception.

And there, the Duke of Sussex will listen to their stories and memories. During the ceremony, Harry will present the Award for Inspirational Child (aged 4 to 6).

And the Duke of Sussex also will give a speech. The charity’s Chief Executive, Matt James,described the WellChild Awards 2023 as offering “a unique opportunity to shine a light on the immense challenges they face and to celebrate their remarkable resilience and spirit.

It will also provide an opportunity to recognize the selfless dedication of those around them.” And James praised the “siblings, parent carers, [and] the professionals who have gone above and beyond to give them the very best chance to thrive.”
