Prince Harry Wants Ban On Paying For Police Protection Removed

You should know by now, when Prince Harry wants something done, he’ll sue for it. Without waiting for his ongoing lawsuit against the UK’s Home Office to end, he’s filed a second one against the same branch of government. Harry sure wants his police security, and he’s not going to go away easy.

The Duke of Sussex Wants Access to British Intelligence In Order To Keep His Family Safe

Harry does not believe that his family can be kept safe in the UK with the American bodyguards in his employ, because they do not have access to British intelligence.

Harry’s latest complaint, which also names the Metropolitan Police, is over the Government’s refusal to provide him and his family with police protection in the UK. He argues that he’s willing to personally pay for specialist Scotland Yard officers with access to national intelligence to protect the Sussexes.

The case, which was mentioned in legal documents for a July 7 hearing, follows a similar complaint against the Home Office for its decision to remove his automatic police protection, which has been granted to go to a judicial review in the High Court.

In response, government officials and senior police officers have told him that the specialist armed Scotland Yard bodyguards and intelligence are not for hire. There’s also the reasoning that granting Harry his request would mean that other wealthy people would want their personal police protection.

Amber Melville-Brown, of international law firm Withers, said: “Currently, state security is not available on a privately funded basis—but a change in the rules, if it applied to any ‘individual’ who did not justify private security, could theoretically enable those with the will and the wherewithal to pay privately for protection, leading to armed entourages accompanying them as they toured around the British Isles.”

A Met Police Chief Also Said That Harry’s Lawsuit Has Now Become “Personal”.

Chiming in on the drama, Princess Diana’s former bodyguard, however, explained that despite Harry’s lawsuit, Harry knows he would get protection if the police ever learned that there was danger to his being.
