Royal Family News – Camilla Snubbed Brigitte

The two women were appropriately solemn as they laid memorial wreaths in honor of fallen soldiers at the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer. Then the First Lady tried to grab Camilla’s hand as they stood in a moment of silence.

Royal Family News – Why Did Camilla Refuse Brigitte’s Hand?

It didn’t take long for First Lady Brigitte to get the hint and decided to fold her arms in front of her. After the weirdness, the two ladies rejoined their husbands, King Charles and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Whatever Camilla was thinking, this moment went viral on social media. The reaction was mixed, with some dissing Camilla as a petty person with others approving of her snub.

One user wrote on X: “It’s against all protocol for the queen to be touched. Brigitte should have known better. Queen Camilla showed dignity in not overacting.”

Royal Family News – Camilla Observed Royal Protocol

We’ll assume that Camilla was just following royal protocol and not showing her true feelings toward the French.

Whatever the case, this isn’t the first time that protocol has been tested. For example, in 2009 Michelle Obama wrapped her arm around Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace.

As one would expect, the late Queen Elizabeth showed much more grace in her awkward moment than did Camilla. After Michelle Obama’s faux pas, the regent returned the gesture.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said of the moment: “It was a mutual and spontaneous display of affection. We don’t issue instructions on not touching the queen.”

Michele Obama wrote in her memoir “Becoming” that her gesture of warmth was instinctual. She said “Forget that she sometimes wore a diamond crown and that I’d flown to London on the presidential jet: we were just two tired ladies oppressed by our shoes. I then did what’s instinctive to me anytime I feel connected to a new person, which is to express my feelings outwardly. I laid a hand affectionately across her shoulder.”

No harm, no foul, as both ladies responded with dignity. However, do you think the same of Camilla during her incident with Brigitte Macron—tell us what you think of Camilla!
