Queen Elizabeth, 95, was reportedly cleared by her medical team to make the helicopter ride after spending days resting at her Berkshire residence.
The Queen was forced to cancel a lot of public engagements in order to recover after she spent a night at a London hospital. Following the hospital stay, Her Majesty was only allowed to undertake some light desk duties. She was, however, spotted driving around her Windsor estate earlier this week, confirming what her Palace aides say about her being in “good spirits”.
Queen Elizabeth “Determined” To Get Her Family Together For A Big Christmas Celebration After A Particularly Hard Year
Following her disappointment that she couldn’t make an in-person appearance at the COP26 summit, she was understood to be “delighted” to be able to make the journey for her mini-break, which had been planned for some time.
The Monarch is said to be making the trip in order to arrange to host Christmas for her family at the Norfolk country home.
After a particularly hard year for the royal family, Queen Elizabeth wants to find comfort and joy in the presence of her beloved family members. The traditional Christmas family get-together wasn’t celebrated last year as a result of the pandemic.
A Palace insider said: “This year, more than ever, it is incredibly important to Her Majesty to be surrounded by her loved ones. The Queen is totally committed to hosting everyone as she hopes to make it back to full health in the coming weeks.
“Her Majesty is resting under doctors’ orders with the intention of being able to fully enjoy the company of her extended family over the holiday period.”
Close sources say it’ll be the perfect “tonic” for the Queen who has witnessed a whirlwind year.
Doctors Clear Queen to Host Christmas after She Canceled Official Duties Due to “Tiredness”
This would be the first Christmas in as many decades that the Queen will celebrate without her beloved husband by her side. Last year, the pair celebrated Christmas alone at Windsor Castle.
A royal source said: “The Queen had been hoping she would still be able to spend the weekend at Sandringham and was delighted her doctors gave her the all clear to travel.

“Her Majesty is very much looking forward to hosting her family at her Norfolk home for the Christmas holiday and there is much preparation to be done in time to accommodate everyone who has been invited.
“The Queen has many happy memories of being at Sandringham with the family over Christmas and was in the firm belief that she was far better off being there in person to oversee everything as much as possible.
“But she travelled on the understanding with her doctors that she continues to rest as advised.”
However, as the royal flag, which denotes where the Monarch’s primary residence is and where the royal court is currently based, is still flying at Windsor, it is expected that the Queen will return there in a few days.
