British royal family news reveals after dropping his HRH style, Prince Andrew lost the ability to use it in an official capacity, but can he still be King?
Even though the Duke of York lost his royal patronages, military titles, golf club membership, and his HRH style in January, for many the question remains – can he still end up sitting on the throne of England? These questions come after a US federal judge denied the duke’s request to have a civil sexual assault case, leveled at him by Virginia Guiffre, dismissed. Later, on February 15, the prince subsequently settled the case – leaving a lot of questions, according to The Independent.
Continue reading and we’ll delve into whether the prince could still be in line for the throne.
Royal Family News – Andrew Settles Sexual Assault Case
Virginia Guiffre was suing Prince Andrew for sexually assaulting her when she was still a teenager. She claimed that she was sexually assaulted by the duke on two separate occasions, after being trafficked by Andrew’s friend and convicted sex trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein.
Notably, the prince has consistently denied these allegations and recently demanded a trial by jury in order to present his defense. However, the world was somewhat surprised when Andrew suddenly settled the case with Guiffre. And now the question remains, could he still ascend to the throne one day?
Royal Family News – Is the Prince In Line For The Throne?
Yes, the prince is still in the line of succession for the throne of England. The Duke of York is still 9th in line for the throne, behind princes Charles and William, and William’s three children, George, Charlotte, and Louis.
The Duke of Sussex comes next, followed by his son Archie and his daughter Lillibet, then it falls to Prince Andrew. However, it doesn’t seem likely, given his position in the line, that the prince would ever land on the throne of England.

After the Queen’s decision to distance Prince Andrew from royal business, in order to protect the monarchy’s reputation, it was announced that “the Duke of York’s military affiliations and royal patronages have been returned to the Queen.” Though Andrew was born a prince, he can no longer use his HRH style in an official capacity.

Prince Andrew’s dukedom was a wedding gift to him from his mother Queen Elizabeth II. It’s not likely to be something she’ll take back, at least not yet that is. It is unlikely that the world will see much of Andrew anymore as he’ll be missing from royal festivities, such as the Queen’s jubilee weekend later this year, and he will likely never again be seen on the Buckingham Palace balcony or riding horseback during Trouping the Colour.
According to Former BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt, “This is what sacking looks like when you’re ninth in line to the British throne.” Be sure to keep up with all things royal and return here often for more spoilers, news, and updates.
