Royal Family News: Diana “Laughed” When Prince Charles Proposed

DianaBritish royal family news shows that the late Princess Diana’s response to Prince Charles’ proposal could have been an eerie foreshadowing of the ish show that followed. How did she react and why is it raising eyebrows decades after animosity-filled divorce? Keep reading to find out what really went down when Diana said ‘yes.’

Royal Family News – Diana Said Yes With Laughter

The big day happened July 29, 1981. The Mirror sheds light on what went in beforehand and it is anything but the romantic fairytale spun to the public. According to the outlet, Diana and Charles had only a dozen meet ups before they got engaged. And about the engagement–Princess Diana reportedly “burst into laughter” when Charles chose a nursery setting to propose.

On top of that Diana was still a teenager when it happened. Allegedly when she arrived at Windsor Castle that fateful day, Charles said he, “missed her so much,” and took her to the nursery room, royal watcher Ingrid Seward told the documentary Charles and Di: The Truth Behind Their Wedding.

Royal Family News – Why Did Charles Propose in a Nursery?

Seward said Diana, “burst out laughing. I think that was probably just her nerves. She didn’t think it was the most romantic of proposals, but she had the proposal.”

When Diana mentioned the proposal in interviews, she doesn’t say she laughed at Charles, but she said that, “[Charles] said ‘Do you realize that one day you’ll be queen?’ And I said, ‘I love you so much, I love you so much.’ He said, ‘Whatever love means.’ He said it then. So, I thought, that was great. I thought he meant it.”

Prince Charles Wanted Diana To Be Queen

Royal writer Christopher Wilson told the documentary that Diana did not expect the proposal and it was more dutiful than anything. “Prince Charles didn’t pick her up in his arms and embrace or do any of the things we might do when we propose marriage to the one that we love,” he said. “He rang his mum, simply to say, ‘There, I’ve done it now. You’ve asked me to get married to somebody, and I’ve fixed it.’ What he’d done was, he’d finally found a wife.”

  1. Park Avenue says

The more I watch her on interviews with and without Charles, she was the one in charge. Definitely.
She NEVER let any opportunity to slip by without her degradation or insults hurled at Charles.
She picked that (now Iconic) engagement ring solely based on the size. It was the LARGEST so that is the one she wanted.
Even that horrid wedding gown had to be the longest train. After asking "what was the longest train", (20 feet)…. She had to have a 25 foot train. Such a petty, petty woman.
