British Royal family news Kate Middleton and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge returned to Westminster Abbey Tuesday morning to pay tribute to the staff of the new COVID-19 vaccination center. The royal couple wed there nearly 10 years ago.
The National Health Service (NHS) turned the Westminster Abbey as a pop-up clinic earlier in March to rollout the COVID-19 vaccine. There are 1,600 vaccination centers all over the country.
It’s been a year since the United Kingdom and other countries in the world imposed lockdowns. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit started with a moment of silence to remember more than 125,000 British people who died due to the coronavirus and to pay tribute to the staff and volunteers at the center. It’s part of the country’s National Day of Reflection to mark the anniversary of the first lockdown in the UK.
Kate and William also checked how the frontline workers are doing and offered their support and words of encouragement. The vaccination center at Westminster Abbey gives around 2,000 injections every day to local residents.
Queen Elizabeth Leads National Day of Reflection
In a statement, the Queen said, “As we look forward to a brighter future together, today we pause to reflect on the grief and loss that continues to be felt by so many people and families, and pay tribute to the immeasurable service of those who have supported us all over the last year.”
Queen Elizabeth also sent flowers to St Bartholomew’s Hospital, where Prince Philip was admitted in mid-February after feeling unwell. Prince Philip was discharged from the hospital last week.
Kate and William Carry On with Royal Duties Amid Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Interview Fiasco
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah stirred more controversies about the royal family and the rift between them. One of the highlights is the racism that Meghan experienced, which contributed to their decision to leave the royal family and their duties.
Amid the issues, Prince William and Kate Middleton continue with their royal duties. They recently visited an ambulance station in Newham. Prince William told a reporter “We are not a racist family.”
Prince William is reportedly very “very upset” about what happened, but he hopes that their relationship “will heal in time.” A royal source told People that after the interview with Harry and Meghan was aired, “There were genuinely mixed emotions and deep sorrow and shock there too.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex talked about feeling trapped, mental health and self-harm issues they experienced, how they were financially cut off, and more.
