British royal family news divulges that King Charles is learning that being regent involves both good AND bad things, according to one royal expert.
Charles waited 73 years to become monarch, a role he inherited on the day his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth died last September.
He can only be chuffed about his new role, but apparently there is also a downside. Read on to find out what is bumming out the newest king.
Royal Family News: King Charles Is Regent
Diana, Princess of Wales’s former butler Paul Burrell told Daily Express that Charles has some beef with his new job title, as it restricts his freedom of movement.
“Last year, he could do what he wanted, go wherever he wanted to go, and didn’t have any constraints, but this year he’s [the] monarch, and he will have to … work, to some degree, every single day of the rest of his life.”
Burrell added that while Charles waited “for this job all his life, and now he’s got it, well, he’s chained to it.”
The outlet explained the rub here, that “Being the heir to the throne and the reigning monarch are two entirely different royal roles.
The Sovereign must fulfill their constitutional role nearly every single day until their dying breath. Christmas Day and Easter Sunday are the only times the King will not be sent top-secret red boxes that contain state papers he must read and sign.
Even if Charles III is overseas or on vacation, this work must be done.”
Royal Family News: Charles Must Now Work
To give you an example of the hardships King Charles faces, “His summer holidays won’t be the same ever again, not like the rest of the royals. The minor royals can literally do what they want to do.” Yes, but would you rather be minor or major?
Similarly, Queen Camilla will also find that her time is not her own. At the moment the King and Queen Camilla are facing their “hardship” in luxury, vacationing at Balmoral Castle as the family has done for decades.
But, while there he must open those pesky red boxes which include parliamentary reports and briefings from intelligence agencies, “every day.”
Tell us royal fans, does Charles have it hard, or should he just button it and enjoy his kingdom?
