Royal Family News: Princess Anne Marrying Andrew Parker Bowles Was ‘Out Of the Question’

While everyone who has been paying attention to the British Royal Family these last four decades know that Camilla Parker Bowles was always been around the royals in one form or another, little did they know that there was another Parker Bowles who was also getting pretty up close and personal with one of Queen Elizabeth’s beloved children. In fact, it’s no secret that Princess Anne used to date Camilla’s ex-husband Andrew Parker Bowles (before he was her husband) but unfortunately, was never really permitted to marry him. Here’s why.

British Royal News – Here’s Why Princess Anne Marrying Andrew Parker Bowles Was ‘Out Of the Question’

Princess Anne used to be in a relationship with Andrew Parker Bowles but unfortunately, the pair were never allowed to marry. Even though Anne and Andrew had a rather public relationship and were seen with one another plenty of times, she was not allowed to marry him because he is a Roman Catholic. Therefore, marriage was always “out of the question.”

The Channel 4 documentary, ‘The Real Princess Anne’ put a spotlight on her love life. During her younger years, the British press was very interested in Princess Anne and who she was dating or who she might end up marrying.

Royal Family News – Princess Anne Has History With Andrew Parker Bowles

The narrator of the documentary says, “Most of the press pack were far more interested in the company she kept and whether they could marry her off. Would it be the Olympic gold medalist Richard Meade, who shared her passion for rising, or more intriguingly, the 26-year-old Andrew Parker Bowles, not yet married to Camilla? He and Anne were often seen together, but he was a Roman Catholic and for a royal that effectively put marriage out of the question.”

With that said, Princess Anne would not have received such pushback today and that’s because the Succession to the Crown Act 2013 actually changed the royal rules on Roman Catholics. The Act removed the historical disqualification of a person who married a Catholic from the line of succession. While Princess Anne was dating Andrew, she was fourth-in-line to the throne, but she is now 15th in line.
