That Time Princess Diana Rescued Barbra Streisand From A Wardrobe Malfunction

British royal family news shows that decades on from her tragic early death, Diana, Princess of Wales, is as much-loved today as she was when she was married to King Charles.

The so-called People’s Princess gets a warm shout-out in Barbra Streisand’s new memoir “My Name Is Barbra.” The legendary singer and actress writes of the time she met Diana at the London premiere of her 1992 film “The Prince of Tides.”

When the film ended, Princess Diana encouraged Streisand to stand up to recognize the audience’s applause. Streisand notes that she hesitated, because royal protocol required everyone to remain seated until the Princess rose.

According to TheList.com “Streisand wrote that Diana gave her a little push to break the protocol, offering much-needed wardrobe assistance along the way.”

The 70’s icon wrote in her book that “The zipper on my skirt had come down a bit as I was sitting, and she noticed and quickly started to zip it up for me as I got to my feet.”

Streisand went on to write that she “addressed the audience at the Leicester Square event, which was also a benefit for the AIDS Crisis Trust.” After she returned to her seat her seat next to Diana, Princess of Wales “Diana turned to me and asked, ‘Do you know how wonderful you are?”

Streisand was in her heyday, an EGOT winner, yet she was stopped in her tracks by the compliment.

Royal Family News – Diana’s Wardrobe Rescue

The singer wrote “I certainly didn’t know it then. Did I know it now? I’m not sure … maybe a little. I thought Diana was wonderful. I wonder if she knew how wonderful she was.”

The two icons went on to have more convos that night, according to fashionista and friend of Princess Diana, Roberto Devorik.

Devorik revealed during the 2008 inquest into Princess Diana’s premature death, “that he overheard Streisand ask the Princess if she was happy while at the premiere.

Diana allegedly replied that her in-laws think I’m mad, and my husband agrees with them and wants her treated in a home.”

It was not the first time that the two powerful women interacted. They both sat together at the premiere of Streisand’s “The Prince of Tides” along with Prince Diana’s future husband, King Charles.

Long after the event, the then Charles, Prince of Wales, confessed to The Times of London that he had “special memories” of Streisand, per Page Six. He also shared a memory of visiting the singer in San Diego, California, when he was stationed there with the Royal Navy in 1974.

As Streisand recalled to People: “So he came to the recording studio. We became friends, and I loved spending some time at Highgrove for a weekend fundraiser and going through his gardens.”

The cheeky singer later said onstage at a 2019 concert in Hyde Park “You know, if I played my cards right, I could have wound up being the first Jewish princess!”
