The Royal Family Battles BBC Over False Claims

The royal family and BBC are not on the best terms right now after a private investigation, concluded just last month, revealed that former reporter Martin Bashir tricked Princess Diana, mother to both Prince William and Harry, into doing the widely famous Panorama interview two years before her death.

The BBC released a statement apologizing for the incident, writing that though they can’t take back what’s been done, they can at least make it better going forward. Well, not in the Sussexes’ book is the worldwide news network any better.

Royal Family News – The Duke And Duchess Of Sussex Defend Daughter’s Name Against BBC Report

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their daughter on Friday, June 4, and announced her birth to the world on Sunday. The couple also thanked everyone who sent them congratulatory messages at such a happy time in their life through a joint statement.

“Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales,” the statement released by the Sussexes’ spokesperson reads.

Shortly after, BBC reported that a Palace insider reached out to them to confirm that the 95-year-old Monarch wasn’t consulted by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle about naming their daughter after her childhood nickname.

Though the couple has announced their desire to take a five-month leave from work to focus on their children, they were forced to issue a public statement rejecting a report from BBC that said the Queen wasn’t consulted for the usage of her famous nickname.

“The duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement – in fact, his grandmother was the first family member he called,” a spokesperson for the couple confirmed. “During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”

Harry and Meghan’s lawyers have also issued a statement to the media asserting that the BBC’s claims are “false” and “defamatory” and should not be repeated.

Friends of the couple also backed up their claim, saying that Harry was definitely in touch with his grandmother Queen Elizabeth before the birth of his daughter, and discussions about the name must have been brought up.

If the Sussexes keep to their word in the Oprah interview, Lilibet will be their second and last child, as they confirmed in the explosive interview in March.

Origin Of The Name Lilibet

The Queen’s not-so-secret nickname came into existence because the young Elizabeth wasn’t able to pronounce her name correctly. Her grandfather King George V affectionately called her Lilibet, in imitation of her attempts to say her name. The name stuck and came to be used by close relatives.

The Queen’s late husband Prince Philip also called her by the nickname. Though she’s never used the name in public or for official letters, she once signed her name as Lilibet on the funeral wreath of one of her closest friends Earl Mountbatten.

Here we go again with glass houses and stones. So it's ok for Harry to tell lies in a TV broadcast but anyone else is a criminal if they do it. Harry is the poster child for, I am so privileged I can do and say as I please but no one else is permitted to. I am not condoning any TV station or Network telling lies. It's quite simple no one should be feeding the public lies. The people deserve honesty and absolute truth when they are told things through any form of media. Harry is no better than the BBC and the last person who should be judging truth in media. The Queen needs to stop Harry's hypocrisy, suing people for the same things he is just as guilty of. Harry is not a man of the people, black or white, if he was he wouldn't be putting people out of work because of costly law suits. We don't see William taking people to court, no because he knows it will harm innocent people. Harry needs to go and all media platforms surrounding Harry's and the BBC's statements need to be addressed both parties should be apologising to the people for fake information.

To me this sounded as if Harry and his friends are calling Her Majesty the Queen a liar. If she or others in the Palace say she is not happy with it, I believe them. Harry and Meghan lied on National TV and they were proved to be not telling the truth. I would never believe anything the two of them have to say. I really thought so much more of Harry. I want him to be happy, but not with all the lies and disrespect they are showing. Queen Elizabeth II is truly one woman that should be admired by all. Meghan knows there is no way she will ever be Diana 2.0, nor could she ever have the class of Kate. Harry and Meghan have shown that they are quiters and we sure as heck don't need them in the US.
