TLC 90 Day Fiancé - Happily Ever After: Angela Deem TLC’s “90 Day Fiancé-Happily Ever After” star Angela Deem has made it quite clear that she is sick and tired of Michael Ilesanmi’s Nigerian culture!

TLC 90 Day Fiance’ Spoilers – Michael Has Pushed His Culture On Angela In Many Ways

Viewers will recall that since Angela and Michael decided to marry in Michael’s home country of Nigeria, figuring getting a spousal visa to bring him back to her home in Hazlehurst, Georgia might be easier than waiting on his K1 visa to be approved, Angela packed up her wedding dress, a nice suit she bought for Michael, and herself on the first plane to Lagos!

The two began arguing nearly as soon as she arrived – first, over a misunderstood meeting with an expatriate friend of his, Dawa, who didn’t show up at a meeting in time but three female friends of Dawa’s did who were also expatriates did, and Angela’s raging jealousy took over and she totally blew the whole thing way out of proportion. Michael had hoped that Dawa, who had dual citizenship but preferred Nigeria over the United States, would help convince Angela to stay in Nigeria with him instead of him moving to Hazlehurst with her!

Then another culture clash ensued when he took her to the market to shop for food for a meal for his mother and aunt, who were coming to Michael and Angela’s place for a home-cooked meal – which was supposed to be cooked by Angela herself! First, she got grossed out by the unsanitary conditions at the market, which was outdoors and featured freshly butchered goat and other meat, which of course drew flies.

Angela pretty much revealed that she didn’t know how to cook from scratch when she demanded canned and processed foods from a real grocery store and that she had expected to go to an American type “grocery store”. She flew into a rage and said she didn’t travel all that way to do the cooking and Michael was responsible – she wound up ordering an American style pizza for the meal, which his mother and aunt graciously tried and actually liked!

TLC 90 Day Fiance’ Spoilers – Angela Worries Michael’s Mather Won’t Approve Of Her If She Can’t “Tote A Baby”

Even after Angela received the good news from her OB/GYN back in the states that she didn’t test positive for any cancer, she warned that with her age, other complications such as preterm labor, high blood pressure or gestational diabetes could crop up even if Angela was acting as a surrogate for she and Michael to have their baby together – which Michael’s family didn’t have to know, they could assume it was a regular pregnancy.

Michael again pushes his Nigerian culture on her in a sneak peek of the upcoming episode, where he admits his mom might pose a problem if Angela cannot carry a baby. Michael said that a fertile bride is a huge thing in Nigeria, and elders were to be respected. In his culture, he may not be able to marry Angela without his mother’s blessing. Angela, of course, blows up!

Michael tells her that he loves her and not having his mother’s blessing doesn’t mean he won’t marry her, but he was afraid his mother would make trouble and discourage even Michael and Angela’s relationship. Angela was livid that his mother would have to give them their blessing, and reiterated he cannot expect her to be a Nigerian woman because she’s not!

She didn’t understand why Michael’s mother would have to give any kind of blessing or consent to their marriage and told Michael his mother would get over it, but Michael continued to insist that he had to adhere to his family’s expectations as well as the Nigerian cultural traditions! He reminded her that he wanted to honor his family, and this is the way things are done in Nigeria; to which she shot back something to the effect of who gives a crap!

Michael continued to patiently explain that they will have to make his mother understand he and Angela’s relationship if she is going to go by her traditions. Angela again flew into a rage, and told him she was sick and tired of hearing about his culture and told him to be his own man and act like one!

She contrasted the disrespecting traditions of the elders to the elders disrespecting their wishes. She went on to say to the TLC production crew that she didn’t think it was fair that Michael’s mom should have so much control over their wishes to marry and their relationship! She’d already gotten her blessing, why should she take it back? She reiterated how much of a sacrifice she’s made to travel to Nigeria and that his mother would just have to “get over it”!
