Chicago Med: Yaya DaCosta Drops Bombshell April And Ethan Bombshell

Chicago Med star Yaya DaCosta, who played April Sexton, quickly became a fan favorite.  Viewers watched April face challenges both personally and professionally, including her relationship with Ethan Choi (Brian Tee).

And Chicago Med fans became invested in hoping April would find happiness in her romantic life and career.  We last saw April and Ethan together in the season 6 finale, where her love for her ex got revealed.

Would Chicago Med season 7 turn into a renewed romance for the couple known as ?  Sadly no.  Find out what Yaya DaCosta just revealed below about what really happened behind the Chicago Med scenes!

Chicago Med  Spoilers – Yaya DaCosta Stuns With Chicago Med Shocker

Chicago Med recently aired its premiere episode for Season 7.  And all our hopes for April’s and Ethan’s future got rudely crushed.  We learned that Ethan had left temporarily for physical therapy.

But where’s April?  The plot suddenly shifted, putting this fan favorite in a nurse practitioners program.

And while various theories about the story line change have gotten bandwith, Yaya DaCosta herself has finally revealed her truth.

The Chicago Med actress bluntly told TV Line that she does NOT feel that she achieved closure on April’s and Ethan’s relationship.  “No, not at all,” said Yaya.

“I think that when [the finale] was written, the idea of April not being at Gaffney Medical Center, and me not being on the show, was not even a thought. Things happened behind the scenes very quickly. We were literally in the final days of shooting the episode while conversations and negotiations about my working there were going on.”

As a result of those negotiations, April Sexton got written out.  But Yaya pointed out that the exit did NOT need to happen.

“April was holding Ethan’s hand and saying, ‘I’ll never stop loving you,’ and that, had I stayed, could’ve developed so that they could get back together,” commented the Chicago Med alum.

And DaCosta offered a way that the plot could have gotten revised.

“April would’ve joined the nurse practitioners program at Gaffney. But because that didn’t happen and I left, they were able to redefine those moments,” added the actress. 

That redefined relationship turned into a disappointment for viewers as well as the actress herself.

The bombshell that Yaya just dropped might blow away the possibility of her returning permanently to Chicago Med.   But could it open the door for a guest star appearance?   DaCosta currently stars in “Our Kind Of People” on Fox.

However, Yaya emphasized her willingness to return to the NBC medical drama for a guest star appearance.  And DaCosta particularly feels enthusiastic about any chance to achieve closure on Ethan’s and April’s up-and-down romance.

The Chicago Med alum shared that she “absolutely” would return to Chicago Med for a guest role.  “My experience on Chicago Med was absolutely lovely,” gushed Yaya. “I loved the cast and crew, and it was difficult to leave on a personal level, but not on a professional level.”
