Disney Plus Just Single-Handedly Ended Marvel TV

Disney Plus killed Marvel Television. When Marvel announced that it would close its television unit and transform into the successful Marvel Studios that’s responsible for MCU movies. This news shouldn’t come as a shock to fans. Marvel already has shows on ABC, Freeform, Hulu, and Netflix. It seems like there are so many options. Of course, there’s also Disney+.

The reason why Marvel Television didn’t take off is because Daredevil and Jessica Jones didn’t make as much of an impact on Netflix. Meanwhile, Agent Carter only lasted two seasons on ABC while Inhumans rarely made an impact when it was released in 2017, even though it was screened in IMAX theaters. As streaming becomes a part of the future, Disney realized that it didn’t want to partner with Hulu or Netflix. It wanted to have its own streaming service. Marvel Television was unraveling as soon as Disney+ was announced. Fans knew that the Marvel Television shows weren’t going to last.

According to one fan on Reddit, there was no need for Marvel Television now that Disney+ was becoming a thing. The fan wrote, “From a business perspective, this was inevitable. Back when Marvel Television was formed, it was designed to create Marvel content for Disney-ABC Television Group of channels. Now that Disney+ exists, there’s no point in maintaining a division that was designed for network television in mind.”

Marvel Television’s death was inevitable after Kevin Feige’s promotion to Chief Creative Officer back in October. Some fans are surprised that it took this long for the division to reach its ending point. According to a Variety report, Marvel Television will no longer develop new television content. Instead, Feige’s role of Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Studios will oversee all the brand’s film and television content, which includes plenty of new live-action series on Disney+. Some of the new programs, such as Hawkeye and Loki, will tie to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, unlike the ones on Netflix.

While Disney+ will become the primary home for Marvel movies and television content, the studio is still working on some content for Hulu. However, it was previously reported that the showrunner and writing staff behind Tigra & Dazzler have left over creative differences.
