Doctor Who’s Season 12 Premiere Date Has Finally Been Announced

Season 12 of Doctor Who finally has a release date. Fans of the beloved British sci-fi series didn’t have to wait long for a new season. BBC and BBC America just dropped a trailer for Season 12 a few weeks ago. But this new trailer confirmed a New Year’s Day 2020 premiere date. Doctor Who has catapulted Jodie Whittaker’s fame since she became the first female Time Lord of the series.

Season 11 didn’t disappoint fans despite the conflicting reviews since showrunner Chris Chinball took over from previous writer Stephen Moffatt to bring the Doctor into a new era. A new Doctor also means new characters. Chinball focused on including new colorful characters such as Graham O’Brien (Bradley Walsh), Ryan Sinclair (Toslin Cole), and Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill). The four friends have gone through their share of adventures in Season 11. And it looks like Season 12 will have many more adventures as Whittaker gets comfortable in her role as Doctor.

The New Year’s Day 2020 premiere date is a welcome one to fans who have been waiting for its arrival. While the new Doctor Who trailer provides very little details, it hints at guest stars who could make an appearance. Some of those guest stars include Goran Višnjić (Timeless), Robert Glenister (Paranoid), Sir Lenny Henry CBD (Broadchurch), and Stephen Fry (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), according to ScreenRant.

The short trailer reveals that the new season proves that Chibnall and co-producer Matt Stevens are also focusing on more action. There are more monsters than ever in the trailer even though there’s little context with what the guest stars are playing. Doctor Who has become a cult following now that Whittaker playing the lead. The new season is also focused on the tagline “Space. For All.” Its making it clear that this series is for everyone, no matter if you’ve been a fan of the longtime running series or not.

There’s no doubt that Whittaker’s casting has been historical and iconic. It’ll be interesting to see how she takes on her role in Season 12.
