Frozen 2 Becomes Disney’s Sixth Billion-Dollar Movie of 2019

Disney’s Frozen 2 has officially hit the $1 billion mark at the global box office. It’s become the sixth Disney movie to make over $1 billion at the box office just this year alone, according to multiple outlets including Forbes. This comes after Aladdin, Avenders: Endgame, Captain Marvel, The Lion King, and Toy Story 4. Frozen 2 also became the eighth highest-grossing movie of the year, according to Variety.

It has made $19.2 billion domestically and $55.7 million globally. This puts the movie at $1.033 billion total globally, according to the Forbes report. The first Frozen movie gave it a total of $1.28 billion during its time in the movie theaters. Since then, it has become a global phenomenon. It seems like no one can’t ever think of the song “Let It Go” whenever they think of the movie. Frozen 2 is currently sitting in the eighth spot on the list of the highest-grossing animated movies of all time. Five of those seven movies on that list are also Disney movies.

Frozen 2 has become one of the most highly anticipated sequels since the 2013 Disney film that won an Oscar. Frozen has become a hit on its own. Ever since its opening weekend, it made an incredible $350.2 million. It also smashed several records to become the largest-opening animated film of all time, as per Deadline. The family-friendly animated film made $125 million in the U.S. alone. It doesn’t look like the Frozen hype is going to die down anytime soon.

Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, Frozen 2 continues the story of Princesses Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell). The famous sisters reunite with Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and Olaf (Josh Gad) to embark on a new adventure outside of Arendelle to discover why Elsa has magical powers. The last movie to hit $1 billion before Christmas was Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. If that movie can become a hit at the box office, then Frozen 2 is sure to make several billion dollars before the end of the year.
