‘Home Alone’ Reboot to Stream on Disney+: Fans Have Mixed Reaction on Twitter

Home Alone

A new Home Alone is on the way to Disney+ but not everyone is happy. In fact, this recent news has received mix reviews. But that’s not stopping Disney from planning the reboot with Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney. The entertainment giant first announced a reboot of Home Alone back in August. However, fans and Macaulay Culkin himself ripped the studio for tampering with the 1990 John Hughes Christmas movie.

After the film’s cast has been revealed, it has been met with mixed reaction, according to Insider. The announcement was officially made on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Disney announced that it cast Archie Yates to play the role that was famously filled by Culkin, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Yates is expected to appear in the film alongside Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney as his parents. Dan Mazer will take over in the director’s chair. Fans of the nostalgic Christmas classic didn’t take this news too well. It prompted the question, “Does the world really need a Home Alone reboot?”

One crafty fan on Twitter noted how the original wouldn’t work in today’s modern world: “Because they’re rich, Kevin’s parents arrange for a Lyft to pick him up from home and Venmo him airfare to catch up with the rest of the family in Paris. #HomeAlone doesn’t need a remake because it doesn’t work in our time.” In addition, fans are getting tired of Disney’s slew of reboots. Not only does the production company tap into reboots of classic films, but it’s also been releasing live-action versions of their classic animated movies. In the past week alone, the entertainment company dropped trailers for Ghostbusters: Afterlife and the Mulan live-action remake. Not to mention, Jumanji: The Next Level is set to release in theaters this week. But nothing has quite struck a nerve like Home Alone.

However, there is plenty of need for a Home Alone reboot. Last year’s Google Assistant commercial was a hit with fan that featured a grown-up Culkin reprising his iconic role. But there’s no need for a reboot on the full-length film. Many fans took to Twitter to express their doubts about Disney working their magic on a 30-year-old comedy.

Disney has not announced a release date for the holiday movie, which is set to air on Disney+. Since production is expected to start sometime in 2020, it’s likely that it’ll be released a year from now, in time for the holiday season. Are you excited for a Home Alone reboot?
