Spinning Out

January Jones has gone from Betty Draper to an ice queen for Netflix’s new figure skating drama. The new series titled Spinning Out shows the former Mad Men star taking to the ice-skating rink. January will take on the role of Carol, a former professional figure skater who’s also the mom of Kat (Kaya Scodelario). Kat is inspired to get back into the competition after a hard fall kept her off the ice. Now she has to team up with a bad boy figure skater who she has a hard time getting along with. According to Entertainment Tonight Canada, Emma Roberts was originally cat for the role of Kat, but she had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Instead, the Maze Runner actress Scodelario signed on to take on the role. There are no other details about Jones’ new role or the drama itself. Netflix teased the new drama by releasing a trailer on Tuesday, Dec. 10. You can check it out for yourself here. In the trailer, Jones’ character tells Scodelario’s character, “You were perfect and now when I look at you, all I see is wasted potential.”

It mostly shows Kat going through her share of challenges as she tries to compete in the world of professional figure skating. The trailer reveals a dangerous head scar. Plenty of pill popping and drinking to excess. There’s also a love triangle because what is a show without a love triangle? There’s also plenty of self-harm. Johnny Weir also makes an appearance in this emotional new drama. Of course, Jones shows up as the Skate Mom. Some could argue that Spinning Out looks like it belongs on Lifetime rather than Netflix.

Jones hasn’t even talked about her new role. Instead, she has taken to Instagram to heat things up. The 41-year-old actress shared a series of sexy photos in time for the holidays, according to Fox News. The new snapshots show Jones wearing a curve-hugging red dress that perfectly matches her lipstick. Jones captioned the post with a heart and a Santa emoji.
