Fans are having a hell of a good year, I can tell you that. HBO has officially confirmed that more ‘Game of Thrones’ is coming, and it’s not a prequel, sequel or spinoff. Methinks they’re making up for the proposed Jon Snow series that was cancelled. What do you think?
This is coming after it was announced that Cilian Murphy will be returning for a ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie – imagine that! – after the series wrapped up its sixth season run in 2022. Does this officially make 2024 a good year?
HBO and Max CEO On the Studio Developing A ‘Game of Thrones’ Movie: “I Think It Would Be Fun”
At the moment, there is no announced cast, director or scriptwriters attached to the project, and HBO and Max CEO, Casey Bloys, revealed that it’s only moving forward if the studio likes what it gets. So let’s be cautiously optimistic for now. Odds are it’s likely we’ll be returning to the fantasy world created by bestselling author George R.R. Martin.
“When we announce at HBO we’re developing this story or that story, keep in mind it’s developing,” Bloys told a group of reporters. “We’ve got two shows at the moment, including Game of Thrones. I think the movie is the same idea.”
He added, “They’ll develop an idea, we’ll see if it’s good. We’ll read the scripts along with them. I think it could be fun and interesting. That’s the point of development: you see, is there a story that’s worthy of being in theaters and a big spectacle? I think it would be fun.”
HBO CEO Max Bloys Reveals Studio Wants To Keep George R. R. Martin Happy
George R. R. Martin clashed with HBO over the significant changes that was made in the second season of ‘House of the Dragon,’ which will change the course of seasons 3 and 4. He wrote a strongly worded statement disapproving of the show, writing that “there are larger and more toxic butterflies to come.”
Even though Martin deleted the post that same day, Bloys decided to address it publicly, revealing that the studio loves Martin.
“We love George,” he said. “Obviously, I will say George and ‘Game of Thrones’ really changed the course of HBO. So I want him to be happy. He’s very important to me, to us. But when we put shows together, you know, you’re putting a marriage together and marriages can be difficult, especially when Ryan is making creative decisions, adapting work. It can be fraught, and like any marriage, sometimes it gets rocky.”
