Hawaii Five-O Boss Reveals Why It’s Bad to Have a Cross-Over With Magnum P.I.

Hawaii 5-0

Rumors have been swirling that Hawaii Five-O plans to do a crossover episode with Magnum P.I. But fans are smart enough to know that this decision is, not a good idea. Why is that? At the end of the Season 3 Five-O episode titled “Hoa Pili” showed Kamekona giving Danny, Max, and Steve a helicopter tour of their island home. Max compared the scene to the 1980s action series Magnum P.I., even referring to his friends as their Magnum counterparts.

Then the guys started singing the Magnum theme song right there in the helicopter, according to the TVLine report. This detail is kind of hard to ignore even if Five-O characters have popped up on Magnum P.I. But once you have Danny and Steve interacting with Thomas Magnum, it just doesn’t feel right. Peter M. Lenkov, Five-O’s showrunner said that he did that scene on purpose since a crossover episode is out of the question.

“We did do that,” Lenkov revealed. Then he took back what he said and revealed with a wink, “We’re going to forget that episode happened.” But he was still hoping for a Magnum crossover episode during that time. The March 2013 episode of Hawaii Five-O would come back to haunt him with the dedicated fans taking notice, joked Lenkov. “That was a time when I had lost hope that I could get [my Magnum reboot] launched.” In fact, he’s been trying for a long time even though he knew it was never going to happen. So, Lenkov revealed that he decided to pay tribute to the show in that episode.

But now Lenkov wants to forget that episode ever happened. “But we’ll take that one out of rotation,” he joked, “Now that you’ve brought it up!” The Hawaii Five-O and Magnum P.I. crossover rumors first surfaced on mddwn.com. According to the report, the reboot has been two years in the making. The crossover was made due to the fact that MacGyver’s is going to take Magnum’s slot when it premieres its fourth season in February 2020.

The crossover episode is reportedly in the post-production stage. The first episode is said to start with Hawaii Five-O and end with Magnum P.I. since both shows air at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Friday nights. The report also claims that Lenkov revealed that the story “feels like a two-hour movie.” So only time will tell if this crossover episode will really happen.
