Home Alone Reboot Is In The Works But With A Reportedly Different Plot

The ’90s hit “Home Alone” starring Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister is about to make a comeback. Under the umbrella of Disney+, the “Home Alone” reboot is set to begin filming this February in Montreal. However, reports say that none of the original cast will hit the big screen for this one.

Shooting Starts Next Month

Reports from ACTRA Montreal stated that the pre-production of the film will begin on February 3 and will likely wrap up by mid-April. The movie will likely finish filming in about two months but the release date will certainly be delayed.

Following the footsteps of the hilarious holiday misadventures of the McCallisters, the new “Home Alone film” will embrace some notes of the original film. On the other hand, a report from Screen Rant highlighted the fact that the Disney+ “Home Alone” movie will have a different title. But of course, it will have some similarities with the original film.

Despite having little to work with, bits and pieces of the script somehow leaked, though. Screen Rant further wrote that the plot will feature a married couple that is knee-deep in trouble after a kid steals a valuable commodity, putting their home on the line. The story is totally different from the original one, which followed the story of a young boy as he tried to fend off robbers in his home.

Confirmed Cast Members

So far, three of the cast members have been confirmed. Archie Yates, who made his film debut in last year’s Jojo Rabbit, will play one of the lead roles.

“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” lead star, Ellie Kemper, will also play a main role alongside comedian Rob Delaney of “Catastrophe.” While three of the lead actors have been confirmed, news of their roles has not yet surfaced.

After news of the reboot broke out, Twitter users were quick to address the seemingly dated plot of Home Alone with how everyone has access to smartphones and the internet these days.

Similarities With The Original Plot

However, the Cheat Sheet reported that it would not be the case. Although the reboot would share similarities with the original film, it would also take into account the advances in tech that we now have.

Just like all of the Home Alone sequels, the reboot will most likely be released in December as an attempt to grab a bigger share of the market.
