Ahead of its premiere, Netflix dropped a first look into Imelda Staunton’s Queen Elizabeth.

Imelda Staunton Discusses Her Challenging New Role As Queen

Every sneak peek into the royal family centered drama serves to get fans more excited about the upcoming season, and they’ve certainly piqued the interest of fans with the casting of the Harry Potter alum, Imelda Staunton.

Earlier this year, Staunton discussed her new role in an interview on BBC. The 65-year-old actress opened up about the downsides of, not only playing a member of the royal family, but revisiting events that happened not so long in the past enough to age into the memories of history.

“I think my sort of extra challenge, as if I needed it, is that I’m now doing the queen that we’re a little more familiar with,” Imelda explained. “With Claire Foy, it was almost history and now I’m playing one [queen] that people could say, ‘She doesn’t do that,’ ‘She’s not like that,’ and that’s my personal bête noire.”

The Crown Reveals New Cast Members

But, Staunton won’t be the only new face that dedicated fans and viewers will see in the upcoming season. As fans of the show probably know, the entire cast gets replaced every two seasons.

Elizabeth Debecki will be replacing Golden Globe winner Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, Jonathan Pryce will take over from Tobias Menzies as Prince Phillip, Dominic West will take over the role of Prince Charles from Josh O’Connor and Lesley Manville will take the reins from Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret.

The movie usually covers a decade interval, and according to show-runner Peter Morgan, Meghan and Harry’s story won’t make it into the show as they work within a 20-year interval.

As you gear up to enter the world of royalty one more time, keep in mind that there will be quite a wait this time around, as the new season will debut sometime in 2022. The good news is that, since it is filmed two seasons at a time, season six, which is also meant to serve as the series finale, will arrive in 2023.
