Netflix recently came under fire for implying that now King Charles supported the notion that Queen Elizabeth the II should abdicate so that he would become King. I don’t know why any one would be bothered about what “The Crown” has or hasn’t done because it’s clearly a work of fiction.
According to Prince Harry, the series is very loosely – with an emphasis on “loosely” – based on real life events. Of course, most of the dialogues were invented and dramatized to intrigue the audience and certain characters were installed to increase the movie’s appeal to viewers, but it doesn’t stop some people from seeing it as a guide on all things royal.
In fact it got to the extent that a former UK Prime Minister decided to set the record straight.

According to a report by Deadline, Netflix has pushed back the docuseries featuring the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to next year. Originally it was said that it’ll be dropping in December this year, but as a result of the attacks on one of their biggest shows “The Crown”, they decided to release it at a much later date.
Another season of “The Crown”, however, will launch on November 9 despite the series receiving backlash when former UK Prime Minister John Major complained about a plot in Episode 1 of Season 5. The plot suggested that the former Prince of Wales, Charles, called Major to complain about having to wait to take over the throne.
The episode, titled “Queen Victoria Syndrome” as a result of Queen Victoria’s 63 years of reign, is inspired by an actual poll that ran in the UK Sunday Times, which put forward the argument that the monarchy is outdated and an aging monarch should be made to abdicate in favor of younger heirs.

The original quote run by the Sunday Times in 1991 read that “an ageing monarch, too long on the throne whose remoteness from the modern world has led people to grow tired not just of her but of the monarchy itself.”
According to the episode, Charles then had a secret meeting with PM Major about how Edward VII was kept waiting because of Queen Victoria’s long rule, with the notion that his mother be made to abdicate.
After the episode premiered, Major lashed out on Netflix, calling the portrayal “malicious nonsense”.
As a result of the backlash that followed, Netflix has decided to “postpone” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s documentary.
