Emily VanCamp Exits The Resident Ahead Of Season 5

The Resident spoilers and updates tease that the TV series is losing another fan-favorite character. Emily VanCamp, who played the role of nurse practitioner Nic Nevin, is leaving the show ahead of season 5.

The actress’s alter ego is one of the show’s original characters. She’s been with The Resident since its debut back in 2018. The reason behind Van Camp’s exit still remains unclear but the actress recently revealed that she and her husband Josh Bowman welcomed their daughter, Iris.

Her character, Nic, was the love interest of Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry). The pair eventually tied the knot in the premiere episode of Season 4 and she gave birth to their first baby in the season finale back in May.

Season 5 Poster And Trailer Hint Possible Tragedy

Teasers for the upcoming season, which is scheduled to air on September 21, hint at a possible tragedy for the couple. Plus the fact that Season 5’s official poster only showcased Conrad. The trailer for the upcoming season also featured Conrad getting a visit from the cops. Fans have to wait and see if it has something to do with Nic since she’s nowhere to be found in the short clip.

The Resident Co-showrunner Teases Something Big For Season 5

After season 4 ended, co-showrunner Peter Elkoff hinted that something big is coming up in season 5.

“When our audience — our loyal and beloved audience — tunes in for the first episode of Season 5, by the time it’s over, they will be shocked at certain changes that are taking place at the hospital,” he teased, TVLine reports.

He didn’t reveal anything else and it still remains unclear whether he was referring to VanCamp or not. Fox still needs to make an official statement but a source is still hopeful that the actress will make an appearance in some way in the upcoming season.

Wilson Exits The Resident

VanCamp is only one of the actors who have left the show in recent months. Shaunette Renée Wilson, a.k.a Mina Okafor, left the series during season 4. The actress revealed that she approached the series producers and asked if she could leave the show. They agreed and provided her character with a “wonderful send-off.”

“Losing the extraordinary Shaunette is heartbreaking for us, but we are honoring her request to leave with gratitude and respect for her contribution to the show,” The Resident‘s executive producers said in a statement.
