TLC ’90 Day Fiance – Happily Ever After’ Spoilers: Debbie Just An Overprotective Mom, Or Unhealthy Jealousy Over Colt’s Women?

TLC - 90 Day Fiancé - Happily Ever After: Debbie Johnson TLC’s “90 Day Fiancé-Happily Ever After?” fans have noticed that Debbie Johnson seems to be beyond overprotective – she actually sabotaged Colt Johnson’s relationship with Caroline Jess in a recent episode of the show.

At the dinner that Jess’s father, Silvio, and his wife, Gilma had prepared for Colt and Debbie so that they could meet Jess’s family, which included Silvio, Gilma, her aunt Gisele, and Hans, who appeared to be with Gisele, and of course Jess.

Colt was worried about how her father would take him because if Silvio didn’t approve of him for Jess, that was the end of their relationship. Silvio wanted to know what Colt’s intentions were towards his daughter, and Colt said he wanted to have a family with Jess – right in front of the Jess interrogation squad and his mother Debbie, who was not only blindsided but looked angry.

Colt further explained that he wasn’t looking to fall in love again, (that begs the question of why he was again looking in singles sites!) but met Jess online and immediately fell in love with her, and went on to say that he thought Silvio’s daughter was the best person he’d ever met. More scowls came from Debbie at that statement. Then Gilma spoke up – in Portuguese with Jess translating to English, as all of her family’s comments were, and told Colt if he really loved Jess that much, then the marriage needs to be there in their home so that Gilma can see his eyes, and presumably his body language, so she can tell if he’s for real or not.

Debbie is flabbergasted – and then Jess says even though she and Colt had only been dating for two months she feels like she’s known him for many years. Debbie expresses her concern that their relationship is moving way too fast and she doesn’t understand why Jess’s family doesn’t seem upset or suspicious – and that she doesn’t want him divorced in six months again like he was from Larissa Dos Santos Lima.

Then Jess, a little tipsy, gets upset about Debbie comparing her to Larissa and shushes her with her hand over Debbie’s mouth, then talks about all the things Debbie does for Colt (that he should be doing for himself as a grown man) and shouts at Debbie, “F k you!” Colt decides to send Debbie back to her hotel in a cab! Debbie wants to know why he isn’t coming with her!

To the TLC producers, Silvio says Debbie’s too bossy and can see that she is way too possessive of Colt – like she wants her son for herself, and no one else can have him, meaning a girlfriend or a wife! Colt says he feels bad about sending Debbie back to her hotel, but that night was not meant to be about Debbie, it was meant for himself and Jess, and to get to know his family and his family get to know him because he really sees a future with her!

The next morning, Colt, hungover meets with Debbie at breakfast. Debbie felt disrespected the night before because he wouldn’t go back with her and thinks he should be much warier about Jess and about moving so fast with her. He hems and haws and tells her he isn’t sure where it’s going in the future but he’s with Jess now. Debbie continues her needling, asking him with a disapproving scowl on her face if he really wants to get married that quick, and he tells her he isn’t sure even though he was the night before.

Then she disparages Jess, saying that Jess should have addressed Debbie’s concerns. Colt takes Jess down to the beach afterward, so they can talk about what went on the night before. Even Colt in his conversation says he’s not sure if his mother is jealous over him or what but that she is very overprotective and he comes down on Jess a little bit about being rude to Debbie although he loved spending time with her family. This brings an accusation of being a “baby man” which sounds like the same thing as a “mama’s boy” in America, which gets Colt a little upset!

He then compares him and his mother to Jess and her father, calling her a “daddy’s girl” which is not necessarily as derogatory a term as “baby man” or “mama’s boy”. Then he asks her to be patient with Debbie and reminds her they both need to prove to their parents that they are right for each other.

TLC 90 Day Fiance’ Spoilers –  Debbie Is Very Clingy To Colt

Many viewers have noticed that Debbie is very clingy to Colt, and does seem to be possessive of him. Whether he is an only child or not has never been discussed, although a couple of years ago when he was still married to Larissa, Debbie became very upset upon finding out they wanted to move out of her house and find their own-Colt had lived in his mother’s house with his mother practically all his life.

However, we do know that Colt’s father died of a heart attack, although it has never been revealed as to how long ago. On Debbie’s Instagram, she posted a photo of the two of them that appears to have been taken several years ago, marking their 37th anniversary had he lived on November 13, 2019.

His name was Harley, per another photo of them in 1984. We do know it was prior to October 8, 2018, however as she clarifies to a fan that a photo of herself with him by a slot machine was of herself and her late husband. She has photos of her family, including her parents and siblings, nephews, and nieces, but no other children other than Colt so it is likely that he is indeed an only child.

There are lots of photos of cats and an occasional dog, but we see that she is heavily involved in animal rescue and adoption so all fifty cats are not theirs although their three current cats are pictured as well as a couple more who passed. Debbie continually refers to Harley as the love of her life, and we can see that family and furry family are very important to her.

Nothing indicates that perhaps Colt himself may have had any brushes with death as a baby or small child, which certainly can set off a case of lifelong overprotection, as could past miscarriages, which she doesn’t indicate she’s ever had prior to giving birth to Colt. It sounds like Debbie is emotionally dependent on Colt, and may be compensating for the loss of her husband through clinging to her son for dear life, and unfortunately, that is not healthy for either Debbie or Colt!

      Colt be a man and stand up to Jess. She is very, very bossy with you. Be a man and grow thieves. Debbie let your son grow up. You need to cut the apron strings.
