TV reboot news reveals we could be getting a TV show based on the cult classic film. Titled Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, it will feature similarities to the movie, but will also have some differences. Keep reading to learn everything known so far about what to expect in the television series.

About the Gremlins Movie

The movie became an instant hit when it was released in 1984. There was even a sequel to the film in 1990. As fans recall, Randall (Hoyt Axton) ended up buying Gizmo the gremlin. At first, the shop owner didn’t want to sell the creature. However, Randall ended up getting it from the owner’s grandson. However, there were three simple rules to follow: no bright lights or sunlight, no water and never feed Gizmo after midnight. Of course, all three rules were broken and chaos ensued.

According to TV Insider, there is no premiere date known yet. However, the website did report that it would air on HBO MAX. It also gave fans a small glimpse into what to expect,

“Set in Shanghai during the 1920s, this series is a comedic adventure for the entire family as it traces the origins of the Mogwai to the Jade Valley in China’s Western countryside.”

What Else is Known About Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai

Earlier this year, multiple news outlets reported that the TV reboot would focus on the shop owner back when he was just 10 years old. It will focus on when he first met Gizmo. Back in July, SmoothRadio provided this teaser for the TV show,

“Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering – and sometimes battling – colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore… On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”
