After must have been a long wait for fans, it’s been announced that ‘True Detective’ will be back for another season run. Already, returning showrunner Issa López is promising fans a grand adventurous show that will follow its own path and not draw from the wildly successful ‘True Detective: Night Country.’
Here’s what we know about the upcoming fifth season.
‘True Detective’ – Showrunner Issa López Teases “Completely Different” Fifth Season
The creator of ‘True Detective: Night Country,’ Issa López, will be helming the fifth season under her new overall deal with HBO. It’s not a surprise that the show, which originally premiered in 2014, should return for a fifth season given the success of its spinoff ‘Night Country.’
The scriptwriter opened up about creating the fifth season of ‘True Detective’ to be a “completely different adventure” with a host of new characters during her latest Variety interview.
“In the writing,” López teased. “And it’s a blast. It’s completely different. There’s different characters, different setting, different story — and I’m enjoying it like crazy.”
Further speaking on her work on ‘Night Country,’ she said, “From conception to release, ‘Night Country’ has been the most beautiful collaboration and adventure of my entire creative life,”
López said. “HBO trusted my vision all the way, and the idea of bringing to life a new incarnation of ‘True Detective’ with Casey, Francesca and the whole team is a dream come true. I can’t wait to go again.”
‘True Detective‘ premiered in 2014 with Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, Michelle Monaghan and Alexandra Daddario as the main cast.
The show’s official synopsis reads: “Police officers and detectives around the USA are forced to face dark secrets about themselves and the people around them while investigating homicides.”
During its run, it received several awards, including a Primetime Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series.
Issa López also served as the scriptwriter for the season 4 of the show, after Nic Pizzolatto exited after helming the first three seasons of the detective crime drama.
