The Walking Dead has inspired several spinoffs over the year, and now that Fear The Walking Dead is nearing its end with Season 8, fans are excited for more. Based on Negan and Maggie from the original show, The Walking Dead: Dead City is a spinoff series that will air soon on AMC. It is the fourth spinoff in the post-apocalyptic franchise and shares continuity with the original series. So, when will Dead City premiere on AMC? Keep reading to find out the details!
In the upcoming series, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan will reprise their characters as Negan and Maggie from The Walking Dead. Also starring in the series are Jonathan Higginbotham, Charlie Solis, Gaius Charles, Mahina Napolean, and Trey Santiago-Hudson. The series development started in March 2022, and the confirmed title was announced later in August 2022. Now that the production is complete, the show will premiere on AMC on June 18, 2023, with a total of six episodes. The show’s premiere date was announced at the TWD WonderCon panel.
The Walking Dead: Dead City follows an unlikely duo, Maggie and Negan, that team up and embarks on a journey to rescue someone important. The duo heads to New York City, which is infested with zombies, on a mission to rescue Hershel, Maggie’s son, who was kidnapped.
The original show introduced Negan as the big bad villain who was responsible for murdering two of the fan-favorite characters on the show. After he killed Glenn and Abraham, it seemed like his demise was written at the hands of Maggie, Glenn’s widow. However, The Walking Dead had more in store for both Negan and Maggie. Given his ruthless approach and, of course, the impeccable acting by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the character quickly became a part of the main cast.
The Walking Dead kept teasing that Maggie would eventually be given a chance to avenge her husband’s death, but that didn’t happen even in the show’s finale. Now, fans expect that Maggie will be given that chance with this new sequel. There is a big possibility that once Maggie successfully retrieves her son with Negan’s help, she might realize that she no longer needs him. However, there is also a chance that Negan would attempt to redeem himself, earning Maggie’s trust and the right to live and raise his family.
