When asked by Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) why he called Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) by their son’s name, he said it was intentional.

The implication is that Victor is pretending to be in mental decline. He wants to test his children to see how they will respond to a most unexpected family crisis. Victor is wise.

Victor was not pleased after stepping back from the family business. Recent months generated serious bickering among his children, with Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Adam going at it again.

Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) walked away from Newman Enterprises again, as he wanted to work with Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case), who reclaimed Kirsten Incorporated from Victor with no strings attached.

Nick is also dealing with what may be the end, or at least this round, of his relationship with Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope).

So, seeing that Victoria was not handling her Chief Executive Officer spot as he wished, knowing that Adam was still sabotaging himself, and seeing Nick fly the soapy coop, Victor took charge.

Y&R Spoilers – Victoria Newman Recognizes Changes

Victor claims he is trying to project a confused nature. Being off his game, as Victoria told Nick, is offered as a sign that Victor is dealing with memory issues.

Nick did not agree with Victoria’s assessment, thinking that her bitterness was clouding her judgment. But a good heart-to-heart talk at Society convinced Nick to reconsider his stance and evaluate their father with an open mind.

Yet, what Victoria is seeing may not all be a game. Victor is no longer a young man in the prime of his business career. He also does not realize that trying to fool his children about what is intended as a serious health issue, will break their trust.
