Doug Davidson is a legacy on “The Young and the Restless.” He has been with the show since he started in 1978 as Paul Williams, and it is no wonder he’s a favorite among soap fans. Last year, Doug Davidson was fired unceremoniously, enraging not only fans but co-stars as well. Eventually, he has made a return to the canvass. But what is Davidson’s real status on Y&R today?
Young & The Restless News – Doug Davidson Shared Y&R Contract Update
On Twitter, one of his fans asked Doug Davidson about his status on the top-rated daytime soap. “Doug are you on contract or reoccurring?”
“No contract,” Davidson answered straight.
While he doesn’t have a contract that ensures his job at the soap, it doesn’t mean that Young and Restless fans will not see him anymore. He remains to be the only Chief of police in Genoa City, as spoilers have suggested.
And of course, supporters have been asking for more screen time for Paul. Most recently, he’s been working with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) to bring out Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). He’s also making sure that Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) knows who’s the real boss.
Y&R News – About Paul Williams
The Williams clan started to expand on “The Young and the Restless” when the soap moved to a one-hour episode per day. Y&R fans have met Paul’s parents, Carl (Brett Hadley) and Mary (the late Carolyn Conwell), sister Patty (played over the years by Lilibet Stern, Andrea Evans, and Stacy Haiduk), and brother Todd (Corbin Bernsen).
Paul Williams is currently married to Christine Blair Williams (Lauralee Bell). But Paul had several love interests over the past decades—April (Cynthia Eilbacher), Lauren (Tracey Bregman), Cassandra (Nina Arvesen), Isabella (Eva Longoria), and Maggie (Tammy Lauren).
He has three children, daughter Heather (Vail Bloom, Eden Riegel, Jen Landon) and sons Ricky (Peter Porte) and Dylan (Steve Burton).

Young & The Restless News – Change of Regime
Doug Davidson was dropped to recurring status on the year of Y&R’s 40th anniversary under the regime of Mal Young. He was taken off contract and was given no update on when he would be able to appear again. With lots of supports from fans and co-stars, and the change in the regime, Davidson has made it back to the Young and Restless. Unfortunately, he has not gotten a regular contract again.

I think it is just deplorable the way they have treated Paul. He is one of the few who hasn’t gone off to other soaps and came back and forth like a revolving door. He’s been loyal to the show and to his fans. Give him a story line that puts him back in the show where he can be seen other than when he makes an arrest.
I totally agree with you , Paul is one of the ”normal ” people on this show – no agenda or mind games here. Would love to see more of him ! I don’t get why the writers wont give him what’s due !
None of these current writer have a clue.
