Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) did himself in on ‘The Young and the Restless’. His uncle’s, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), repeated admonishments and series of second-chances produced no lasting effect. Now, Theo finds himself fired from Jabot and can only blame himself.
Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Theo were tasked by the true head of this family business to develop a marketing plan that will take Jabot back to the basics. Jack intends to renew the focus of the iconic company his father, John Abbott (Jerry Douglas), founded on cosmetics.
The illogical and eventually self-destructive path Theo followed led him to use a Jabot staffer, Kendra (Maria Oldenbourg, with no character the last name created), to find assumed dirt on Kyle that could be used to humiliate his cousin. Summer Newman (Hunter King) became wise to Kendra and allowed her to have access to a false business plan, which Theo pounced on.
The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Theo Vanderway’s Backstory Intriguing
The main element of Theo’s backstory was presented in a compelling storyline where Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) was identified as his grandmother. That appeared to position Theo as an enduring character. But the recent announcement that Johnson is exiting the cast seems to go against that guess.
It’s hard to know if Y&R created the Theo character last year with the intent of having him be a short-time player. However, it’s highly likely that he was always meant to be revealed as Kyle’s cousin.
The early tension that existed between Kyle and Theo was based on New York events that Mealor’s character wanted to distance himself from. This clash was deepened by Theo’s relentless agitation and goal of breaking ‘Kola’.
Y&R Spoilers – Hints Regarding Fate Of Character
Fans don’t see Theo in his own apartment. He wasn’t asked to live in the Jabot mansion. That was one plot point that winked at the shortness of Theo’s stint in Genoa City, Wisconsin.
The immediacy of the couple’s swap, where Kyle suddenly realized that Summer was his deepest love, allowed Theo to gain an open path to Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle). But Lola’s write-out, as was also recently announced, left Theo with no path forward.
The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Revival Always Possible
It’s surely possible that Theo returns in the future, as his link to Abbott’s exists through Dina. But it doesn’t feel as though Johnson’s alter ego will be seen on any regular basis, if at all, once Theo departs.

Just as Arturo Rosales (Jason Canela) and Mia Rosales (Noemi Gonzalez) were unfortunately written out and moved back to Miami, Florida, so too could Theo follow Lola. There is a spark between them and that type of ending would logically wrap the plot.

Theo did wrong but I’m not sure it was necessary to fire him. Kyle & Summer set him up. Granted it was his choice to fall for it.
I don’t think Kyle and Summers behavior was any better than Theo’s. Kyle shouldn’t have had Summer helping him for a start, it was meant to be a competition between the two men. Kyle again acted like a child. I don’t like him with Summer he is always hopeless and childish with her. When Kyle was with Lola he was growing up and becoming a better man.
I feel sorry for Theo he shouldn’t have cheated. He is better away from those couple of boring idiots. I hope to see more of him and Lola they are way more interesting than Kyle and Summer.
I think Theo needs to learn some hard lessons about work ethics and honesty. But all the firings in the world won’t help if he doesn’t learn from them.
