The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful will officially run out of new episodes on Thursday, April 23. When the coronavirus pandemic shut down production, everyone thought it would be just a few weeks. However, the situation in California is dire, which led to an extended stay-at-home order, Deadline reports.
COVID-19 Shuts Down Production of Y&R and B&B
As COVID-19 spread throughout the world, it would soon affect the United States and California was one ot the states hit the hardest. TV and movie productions soon shut down, which was only supposed to be for a few weeks. However, nobody predicted that filming would still be halted.
To help extend the new episodes, CBS began airing flashback episodes each Friday. However, we are now at the point in which new episodes will be gone by this week.
Los Angeles Extends Stay-at-Home Order
Things are improving for some areas of the country, which means some states are doing a “soft opening.” However, California remains in bad shape. Los Angeles — where The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless’ sets are located — just announced the stay-at-home order is being extended to May 15.
This means production will not resume for at least a month. But it could be much longer depending on the coronavirus. This led to CBS announcing a plan on how to fill the TV slot void weekday afternoons.
The Young and the Restless Vintage Weeks
According to TV Line, CBS will air Y&R vintage weeks going back to 1990. It kicks off on Monday, April 27. While everyone will miss new episodes centered around characters’ lives in Genoa City, it will be a great way to be reminded of the soap’s greatest moments and scandalous storylines. It will also give new viewers a chance to see what makes Y&R such an addicting series!
The Bold and the Beautiful: On-Location Docu-Episodes
As for B&B, it’s first full week of reruns will focus on episodes filmed in Monte Carlo. Those on-location installments took place between 2013-2017. The soap will also air documentary-style episodes that include behind-the-scenes footage.
At the beginning and end of certain episodes, The Bold and the Beautiful actors will give some “fresh commentary.”
CBS Announces Soaps Off the Air – Network Issues Statement
The network’s EVP of Current Programs, Amy Reichenbach said in a statement regarding what happens once the final new episodes air,
“It’s incredibly fun to offer fans an opportunity to look back at such memorable moments from Y&R and B&B. Both of these shows have extraordinary legacies, and these specially curated episodes are only a small portion of what we hope to be able to present in the coming weeks.”
Be sure to catch up on everything happening with Y&R and B&B right now. Come back here often for The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful spoilers, news, and updates.

I’m a little surprised they didn’t have more weeks already taped. I think this plan is the best way to handle the situation.
I must agree with Mimi. I truly thought that both show have few more week new taped that wasn’t show. I must get used to the idea about airing the old tapes from the past. Good luck to the old tapes.
Agree with Mimi, this is the best way to handle the situation. Perhaps we could see some scene from Sephanie Foorester’s days when she was on the show and Sally Spectre herself maybe be able to put an appearance and Nick Marone Ridge’s brother as well as his mother. Oh boy I would love to see those scenes. Thanks for the head ups!
Forgive me but I forgot how to spell Stephanie Forrester’s name the Queen of the show when it first started. Again thank you!
I hope Y&R writers use this time productively to come up with some fresh, interesting and entertaining stories to return with. Stories for the other cast of characters besides Phyllis. I love this show but I am at the point I am almost relieved not to have to watch her terrible acting in every episode. I am fast forwarding so much of the show these days. I only really watch Sharon’s story and Devon (who really needs a good story).
